An good news update

So I've not been here for a while but remember what it was like to be in an IVA and thinking life would never improve!
In brief I started my IVA in June 2010 with PJG and was transfered to CreditFix towards the end. I was lucky to be able to do overtime at work and was pro active in sending payslips monthly and paying over anything extra that needed to be straight away .. I'd made my mistakes and I wasn't going to do it again!
Anyway after 5 years I was lucky to quickly get my CC. I kept an eye on my credit file and made sure that my debts were registered with the correct dates (give or take) so that they would naturally drop off after 6 years. I was planning to move or remortgage once it was all clear so I made a point of spending £3 to get a copy of my Title Deeds which was well spent as my IP forgot to remove the restriction on the property but after a quick reminder it was soon removed ... it definitely pays to check everything!
So last October (2016) I decided that I'd move house .. I contacted Equity Finance who have a background in this sort of thing (now Select Partnership) and obtained an mortgage at a normal High Street rate through Nationwide .. I expected a higher interest rate.
I'm just waiting for the solicitors to stop chatting amongst themselves but finally life is looking up! The first 18 months of the IVA seemed to drag by but after that it really seemed to fly. There is life after an IVA!
My advice would be to stay ahead of the game .. submit your payslips, make sure at month 54 you supply your documents and be prepared to stand your ground! I seems daunting to start but there is an end to it and life can resume like normal at the end.
To this day I've never told anyone I was in an IVA .. just a pride thing for me, but I managed to budget so it was possible. I cycled part of the way to work instead of using the train giving me some extra spending money.
Have faith .. you'll get there in the end and you'll be glad it's all now sorted!

Great post MM --- I agree, it is always better to be pro-active and also to challenge when things don't seem quite right. Great news on the mortgage to :-) Well done !

Lovely post - cycling to work was a great idea to save pennies (and keep fit in the process!).

Best of luck with the property.
