Dear Forum

I am currently considering undergoing an IVA. However, I am also considering emmigrating, either to Canada or New Zealand.

Does anyone know whether an IVA would affect Immigration to these countries e.g. would I be able to get a Work Visa, and would I be able to get credit e.g. Mortgage in these countries?

I've been looking int this a bit myself. Hubby's friend is in austrailia and there is plenty of work and has asked hubby if he would consider it. I would jump at the chance to move out there and because of hubby's age, he would have to apply for the full visa, not just working holiday one, it's a possibility. [8D]
On the Au Embassy site, there is no mention of br/iva's. HOWEVER.....they do state that the visa applicant and any other person to be placed on the visa MUST be of good sound character....that is qite open to interpretating I think....
Obviously, they don't want just anyone in their country but does facing upto your debts seen as being a good character trait or a bad one????
I'm going to email the embassy direct and ask them, if and when I get a reply I will post it on the forum,
xx

Australia has no problem with IVA / Bankrupts - a credit check does not form part of the application process.

The good character relates to the police check they will do during the final stages of the process.

It is currently taking 6 - 12 months to process applications.

When in aus your UK credit file is not related. You will normally be able to apply for a mortgage in aus after 6 months - they will expect a 10-20% mortgage.

You will need to consider the cost of living out there if you are going to continue IVA payments......

Cheers Storm for your reply!

Do you know if this is a similar situation for Canada / NZ?

Hi Storm

Same for Canada .... you start to build a credit file once you start to live in the country with no reference to your UK file.

It may take longer to secure a mortgage at the minute (the whole credit crunch thinggggggg).

Key things to do when you get there is get a bank account / checking (cheque) account so that they can see money in / money out. dr

Hi Storm

Thanks for your reply - but my main question is can a person actually get into Canada with a record of BR back in the UK? Or is this not taken into consideration???

The reason I am asking is that my girlfirend is Canadian and we are currently looking into applying for a Sponsorship Visa which would involve her 'sponsoring' me to go out there and live and be able to work etc., but we are just really worried that BR may affect the Application???
