I think the calls have started! Home phone been unplugged for 2 weeks but this morning I had 3 calls on my mobile from 08 numbers. I didnt answer because I'm a coward and just too embarrassed. No message was left, do they ever leave messages? Its almost a week since we sent the letters explaining the situation and pending IVA, so I did expect it. I just dont want it to sit unfavourably with us for when voting starts. Did anyone else not talk to them?

Me!!! I unplugged my phone for around 6 months, until we moved into our new house. It felt very strange to hear the phone ring and pick it up without being embarrassed or nervous.
Try not to let them get to you, you're doing the right thing,

Actually Chris I wanted to ask you a question. I think I remember you saying something about your employer finding out you have gone BR via your tax code. BR will be our plan B if the IVA is rejected, so I just wondered what you mean by the tax code. What does it change to and does it effect your contributions to HMRC?

Hey drowning-mummy,

Please don't worry about answering or not answering, it will make NO DIFFERENCE to the outcome of the creditors meeting. I answered them at the beginning but then didn't for about three weeks as I was fed up![:(]

I'm sure it won't be long until you can tell them all you're in an IVA![:D]

I think they have a special department that deal with people in IVAs and BR. all your old tax stuff closes down and you start a fresh with a new tax code etc.

Hi there
i dont think it makes any difference but dont be scared of them just tell them the situation and any ref to your company and if they carry on at you just say you have the necessary info and I am ending the call. These are call centre people they dont have any vote on your iva and as said in many other posts internal communication with a lot of theses takes weeks. So answer if you want but if you dont want just click the busy button.
hopefully not too long to go now and all this will stop. it is a rotten time when getting the calls but to be honest I got quite used to it and answered them all the time. They are just a person doing a job though it be a rotten one, they have no right to bully or be rude and if they are end the call.

All the best Ang

We didn't answer the phone for months and they were rings, home phone, mobile and husbands work, also kept getting cards and letters telling us we had to ring.

So don't worry wait for everything to be sorted

It's always better to speak to your creditors and explain the course of action you are taking, although this may not stop the calls you will at least feel less pressure.

With regards to the zero tax code, my understanding is and I will be corrected if wrong. The Inland Revenue is seen as an additional creditor so the tax & NI for 12 months will be paid to the OR and distributed to your creditors.

Hi,
We spoke to our creditors when they rang and fully explained our intentions about our IVA. It was scary and hard to deal with in the early stages but in time we grew in confidence and most of our creditors accepted what we told them and didn't bother us again. Obviously a couple of creditors did not stop (MBNA mainly) the calls and letters and pestered us every day but we just told them what we had told them the day before and tried not to get annoyed with them. It is hard to face up to them but I personally found it easier after I had done.

hi

i nearly always answered my house phone mainly for the simple reaon i prefered to speak to them at home rather than them phone me at work! t seemed to have worked cos i only had one call at work in the 4 months we were waiting for our meeting and that was from citi cards!

do not think whether you speak to your creditors or not will reflect on the voting though!

I never give out my works phone number at all when applying for loans etc. I made that mistake once many years ago and ended up having a stand up row with HFC in the middle of a very large office! Embarrasing.

I had a call from GE money recently, told them I was in an IVA, and they asked if they could ask me if I had a mobile and/or works number. I said, you can ask, but I won't be giving you a number!

Drowning mummy, the only ones I know who leave messages are Mercers (Barclays).

We never answered the phone, or called Mercers back and we had no problem with our IVA

Hi, I didn't answer any of my calls (for 2 months!), I took the voicemail off my mobile so they couldn't leave a message and i just ripped all the letters up! I know it's hard but try not to worry, they will stop calling once your IVA goes through.

Hi I couldn't agree more with everyone. It's so hard and stressfu with the calls and letters - I've just had my IVA approved and although it takes a couple of weeks (up to 4) I can now answer my phone again without worry. Tell those you answer your situation and tjose who won't listen say I've tried to explain, you're not listening "goodbye".
Chin up, the situation will get better,
Thinking of you,

Hi
I don't think that creditors can leave a message as first they need to confirm your identity

Hi Andy, going back to the tax code point, am I right in thinking that you only have a zero tax code for BR and that it doesn't affect the code if in an IVA? Kazzy x
