I too have/had an HSBC account.I am in the early stages of my IVA proposal and have looked on the forum for support, advice and guidance. It has been a god send! and my head has stopped pounding with worry and through some good advice I see things more clearly.
Many people have said to open a Co-Op cashminder account.
I did this in readiness for my IVA (fingers crossed) and impending 1st Direct account closure action. Be ready for them! they are certainly ready for you having read all the posts about HSBC.

Go online, apply by phone or in a branch, it was so quick and easy and the staff were brilliant. I have now set up all my Direct debits, wages etc into this account and fully intend to leave HSBC alone. As goos as a bank they claim to be, loyalty and service is more important. Good luck![8D]

Unfortunately there are some very narrow minded people out there who think once you are in an IVA and addressing your problems, then you are a credit risk even with a basic bank account with no credit facilities. It is about time they stopped discriminating against us.

Precisely what you fear happened to one of my clients recently so I would advise you to open an account with another bank to whom you owe no money, just in case.

the only problem is we don`t have a co-op bank in our town the nearest one is 20miles
and i think as the banks are all linked we owe money to the others

It doesn't matter -apply on line and then you can access your account on line and use the post office counters for withdrawals and deposits!

If you are applying for a Cashminder account you will need to do this on the phone as you cannot apply online.
