Hi Sarah and welcome to the forum

There is no need for your husband's employers to be aware of his IVA - but if he requires developed vetting for his role in HMF then this will have to be disclosed as part of the Financial Questionnaire.

I work for the Police, when they vetted me for a job in the force they found out and dropped me like a stone. Just be aware.

I previously served in the RAF for 16 years and know that they used to give you a "formal warning" in you had debt problems. I do however think that if you have entered into an IVA it shows that you are taking steps to sort things out. I dont know if there is any reason for hubbies superiors to know or find out about it. If he has to go overseas(deployed) you may find there are problems with pay etc as you sometimes have to write cheques out to the payroll people to receive pay.

I wish I had sorted out my finances during my time in the forces, probably some of my money troubles stem from me going out to serve during Op Telic leaving the wife at home studying for a degree having to pay extra childcare costs!!!
That and the fact that in the forces every man and his dog gives you credit!!!

Good luck!!!

Mel,
I hads words of advice. I can't protest anybody if it's sensitive post. However I can still carry firearms so it's a bit daft. We are putting in a grievance to the one who wrote the report as it was appauling and untrue. So watch this place. Sorry for hijacking the post.

It all sounds totally daft to me! You are hardly going to be a risk when you are taking responsible steps towards discharging your debts.

Makes my blood boil that they can't see past either IVA or BR!!!!!!!!!

The problem is that the police and armed forces see people being in debt as a security risk. If someone knows you are insolvent/BR etc and was to offer you an amount of money for sensitive information you would be in a position to be tempted, and thats a risk they are not willing to take.

Surely you're more of a risk when you're up to your eyes in debt?

Exactly, if you are burying your head in the sand, you are far more likely to accept a bribe to pay off your debts. Once you are sorted either in BR or IVA, you have taken responsibility and are paying off your debts. I would say you are far less likely to accept a bribe.

It's about time they took people on their merit.

I haven't told mine either Barb, but if I applied for another post within my force or another one, I know that financial checks would be done on me. Totally not fair.

I think it's more the case that BR stupidly still carries a stigma in the eyes of the uneducated.
