Today is a milestone. We have phoned the National Debt Hotline and been in touch with Melanie. Already we feel relieved that we have shared our problems with sympathetic people. Long way to go yet but keep your fingers crossed.

God this is nerve racking.

The first step is always the steepest and longest, but once you have shared your difficulties with people who can really help you, the gradient curve diminishes and the light at the end of the tunnel can be seen. The very best of luck with your journey.

It will be hairy for the next few weeks but hang in there and you'll be okay. We've all been in your shoes and have come out the other side.

Hi all
Thanks so much for your support and messages. We are going to talk to Melanie tomorrow. We keep veering from one extreme to the other ...should we borrow our way out of this again or finally admit defeat and go for an IVA? We've both been brought up to believe that you should repay your debts and feel very guilty about reneging on this by going for an IVA. Also the worry - what happens if it doesn't get approved .... does everyone feel like this at first?

Yes,everyone feels like its all going to go wrong, but the Ip's are there to try and make sure it doesnt go wrong, just be open and honest with them and you wont go far wrong. Remember not to leave yourself short when filling in your income and expenditure(I&E) forms because its hard to budget if you give yourself unrealistic amounts each month for food etc(lots of threads on here ref. I&E)

Good luck sorting your life out.

Hi Rockin Diner
Welcome to the forum, totaly understand your feelings about feeling guilty but you have made the right decision to try to get things sorted out without further borrowing. I am also at the start(with Melanie) and get concerned about things going wrong that's only natural but you are doing your best to try to pay as much back to your creiditors.

Best of luck

Graham
