Hi All, Its been a while since I last posted,[iva accepted early May], I need to open a Cashminder Account pdq!! HSBC closing my account in two weeks, Does anybody know if the co-op asks if your're in an iva,Do they still allow you to open an account if you are? The co-op is my only option as all other banks are several miles away in the city centre and I need to pay in cash 2-3 times per week, any advice please. THANKS

I think the Coop are still ok at giving out accounts, but not 100% sure.

I'll bump this back up and someone will give you a definite answer

Hi Spencer

Co-op do ask if you are Bankrupt or in an IVA, however they do offer an account to you even if you are. They may refer your application, but this is normal, they offer a visa electron and internet banking and branch banking and telephone banking.
Your other options are:

Thinkbanking £12.50 fee per month with Maestro card and fully managed, waiting times on the phone at the moment are 5 - 8 minutes and you can pay money in at RBS and Natwest

Natwest Step account with Solo card they dont like bankrupts

Abbey Basic Account with cash card only

Yorkshire Building Society Cash transactor account with cash card but you need £100 to open this account

Yorkshire Bank Readycash account with Maestro

Barclays Bank Cash account with Cashcard

Barclays is the only one that doesnt allow branch banking and internet banking

Try to avoid halifax they dont like people with huge debts, and are starting the reject people with IVAs and Nationwide has two basic accounts, and changes its policies regarding IVAs.

Hope that helps!

The Coop Cashminder is an IVA/BR friendly bank so shouldn't have any problems. I am BR and have one.

You will need to phone or go to open one up.

We are br and have a cashminder. We were honest and told the girl in the bank when we applied that we were filing and she wasn't fazed at all. We were referred but she rang us the next day to tell us that we were accepted. They have great customer service and always try to help out.

You can pay cash in at post offices too with the co op account, and it goes right onto your account.
We will never go near a branch of the co op(nearest is 50 miles away),but dont feel we will ever need to,as the internet and phone banking are fine and dandy to use.

You need to apply for the Cashminder account either in a branch or over the phone. They opened an account for me when I was bankrupt and it's an excellent account and the customer service is great. There is internet banking with the account.

The number, in case you don't have it, is 08457 212 212, when you get through just press the hash (#) key and away you go.

Good luck.

Good luck I'm sure you will soon have your account up and running,

I opened a cashminder last month and I use it for my housekeeping. I liked that the co-op support ethical issues
