Evening guys, hope everyone is ok?? I'm feeling really sick at the mo,mine and the o/h's meetings are tomorrow morn and though i've been pushing them to the back of my mind, tonight i have gone into panic mode!! Anyway today i have found two ticks on Boocie,we do frontline him although he did have a gap a few weeks ago between treatments when he had his 'op' and we did his frontline a couple of weeks late because of his stitches. We phoned the vet who said that he should still be covered by the frontline and to also put vaseline on them as it suffocates them.We did this today but they are still stuck firm.Does anyone know if its safe to apply his next dose now(a week early) and would this kill them for sure? Or is the tick being in there classed as an open wound that you shouldn't use it on???sorry for long winded post, would have taken him to vets but wanted to try things first as consultation fee 25 quid!!xxxxx[:0][:0]

We use the little green tongs like things for the dogs ticks, very easy to use even on a big chocolate lab who doesnt like to lie still for long. Dont think a tick being in place would make any difference if you are frontlining again and dont think doing it a week early will have any adverse effects.
PS I tried the vaseline trick once but the tick was still there the following day so never tried it again.
Good luck.

thanx guys,i am going to frontline Bruce before we go to bed, hopefully it will do the trick.I know you have to be careful when removing them, can you get special tweezers for it then???

Yes you do have to be careful. You have to make sure the whole tick is removed, otherwise the head will be left in and I believe it can be nasty if that happens.
Don't know about any special tweezers though. You could try ringing the vets and asking - that won't cost you anything. Have you looked on t'internet? There might be some advice on there.

Still got a choccy lab, called Taz(after the tazmanian devil). He helped me get the groceries out the car tonight by running off with a twin pack of kitchen roll!!!!
He just doesnt know when its not fun anymore!!!
TREES. the tweezer things we use are called TICK TWISTER,and come in a pack of 2 sizes(reuseable). You just slide the end around the tick and rotate the device a few turns and hey presto out comes the whole tick, very easy to use and available at pets@home/petsmart etc for a few pound.
