Finally did “the deed”

I got about 4 hours of sleep last night, drank far too much lager last night, (to help me sleep!), I got up at 5.45am this morning, tried my best to hide the huge dark circles under my eyes before going to court

Got there at 9.30, the forms were ok, just a few details we had not filled in, oops. Then had to wait around for about an hour and we did not even see the judge, was declared bankrupt at 10.35am, spoke to someone at OR’s office, who seemed very helpful, we have to wait for our pack to come with an appointment for the interview AND THAT WAS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just cannot believe I’ve done it, I just feel weird. Arrived home to a LOAD of post from creditors, noooo, I put on my petition that I owed £7000 on my car HP but there is a letter today saying its more like £9000! And I am not too sure that I filled the house and secured lending amounts in properly! Will it all be included??????

I am still panicking even tho its over! Off to town now to TRY and open a Barclays bank account!

Right, stop panicking and start to enjoy your debt free life!!! You are now bankrupt and everything that you owed up to the date of bankruptcy is included. The OR will undertand if there are a few figures that are incorrect.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

well done Jane at last, hopefully you will start to feel the weight being lifted off your shoulders, as skippy says anything up to the date of your BR will be included so don't worry about the figures as the OR contacts all your creditors to get exact figures that you owe, good luck in opening your new bank account and have some more lagers tonight to help you get that good sleep!!

Jane I am so glad it is over for you, I know there are stil a few bits to go but well done. you open your account and have a rest for the day, put your feet up have an early night, you must feel so much better.

Yey - Well Done Jane!!! [:D] Welcome to the BR club!!! (Tho not a club I am particularly happy at being a member of - or ever thought I would be!) I know what you mean about feeling weird - it's as if you expected more to happen isn't it! Probably won't feel real until the OR's meeting and until all those demands and phone calls stop (I'm almost going to miss the 10 calls a day from Morgan Stanley - no-one else ever rings me!!!!!) Good luck with opening your account, It felt strange yesterday when I had to declare to the nice man at Think Banking that "I'm bankrupt! but spose I'd better get used to saying it tho! Have a celebratory lager tonight and have another for me!!! x

Thanks to everyone on this forum for their advice, dunno where I’d be without it!

It still has not sunk in yet!!!

I actually rang Picture Finance yesterday, about our secured loan, I said I was trying to get an up-to-date amount of what I owed, I explained that I just could not understand why the decision was made NOT to allow the sale of our house. I did not mention bankruptcy but the fact that now, with fees, interest, etc and the fact that houses in that area are slow to sell, I thought Picture would be lucky to receive even a very small amount of money back. The man I spoke to was actually very nice and he agreed that it was a bad business decision on their part when I told him the house has now been repossessed.

They will shortly find out about the bankruptcy but really it gives me no pleasure that it has had to come to this, maybe these secured loan companies will re-think their tactics when this situation crops up in future, there must be other people in this situation.

If they had agreed to the sale, they would have received about £16,000 immediately, and then we may have pursued the IVA route to repay as much as we could, but now they will get nothing.

Well done Jane I hope that you feel a little more lifted.

Must be such a relief. Good luck for a debt free future. Sounds like you were paniking there for a bit, relax for a few days now.
