Hi,

It's hard to say which are IVA friendly looking at the various posts on this forum. It seems that different people have different experiences at the same banks.

As a rule of thumb, people avoid banks who were associated with a creditor in their IVA.

Yet I was able to open an account with Barclays despite Barclaycard Credit Card being one of my creditors. This was discussed during the account opening process.

I think just be open and honest with the bank. Tell them you're in an IVA and give them any other info they ask for.

I opened a basic cash card account with Barclays 4 months into my IVA. No problems with them at all.

I have an Isa with co-op opened before approval of IVA but this year was allowed to open a smart saver with them too, I was initially declined but advised to send for approval by underwriters and was passed so I suppose they looked at my history with them over the last 3 years

I'm almost a year into my IVA, Currently banking with Barclays, but having issues with them as several times my card has been blocked, or money has come out when I have cancelled the DD. Their answer was that the company can force the DD through even if I cancel it.

Looking at changing to Co-Op. Anyone had problems doing this during an IVA?

Co-Op will open a Cashminder account during the IVA, but will not allow any savings accounts, for reasons best known to them.

40 minutes today in Barclays after First Direct lowlife told me I had 60 days to get out. Full switch service offered, just sit back and they will sort it, direct debits switched, and everything will be sorted in 7 days.
To steal Staples slogan, that was easy.
Yorkshire bank not interested at moment because they are incentivising witches so why pay to get someone who is not going to make them a profit for a few years?

Yorkshire Bank are usually good -- maybe it depends upon who you get to speak to, or they have changed policies. Would be interesting to hear if anyone else has had any problems with them.

According to the person we spoke too at Barclays, Yorkshire bank and the co-op are not as amenable. He was saying more and more people are going into them with the same story.
The upside to that is that Barclays are realising ex iva customers are good future customers, the downside is the lack of choice.

I opened a Barclays cash card account middle last year. I have nothing but praise for the polite way I was treated, even after telling them I was in the last 6 months of an IVA.
