good evening i know co-op is popular here lol but forgive me if this has already been dealt with but how long do they take normally when you have been 'referred'. i have had a small glimmer of good luck today lloyds gave me a current account and credit checking me twice! im worried though because im trying to psyche myself up to call a ip. i have a large debt with halifax and i need a backup account in case lloyds bin me. ps loving this site-unbelievably lovely people on here x

I'm not sure to be honest Fergie as they opened my account and forgot to tell me! Did they give you an application number? You could always give them a call and find out what's happening.

Hi Fergie - welcome to the forum. Not sure what you mean by ''referred''? Is it co-op who have referred you? I have a basic bank account with co-op and find them very good. I just applied over phone and it was all set up and agreed there and then. I was same as you - terrified I'd be refused as didnt have a hope in h**l of anyone else accepting me, but the guy I spoke to said even Bankrupts were approved!!

Hi

COOP often refer folks so nothing to worry about there.

My experience is that if they can fing you on the electoral register & Council Tax then you will 99% likely get a Cashminder account.

Let us know how you get on

sorry clarity isnt one of my best points ! :)
when i called coop sunday it said it had been referred to its underwriters for a decision-that was for a basic account but today credit checked me twice-2nd time by error and said i could have a current account ? i know they all credit score differently but i thought it a bit odd.

Hi Fergie

The coop always try to put you through for the higher accounts, basic accounts cost the banks money. It could be that the fact you have tried for a couple of accounts has flagged up something that needs checking out. You only really need one new basic account. Make sure your LLoyds account dosent come with any credit facilities.

Good luck again.

the reason im trying for 2 is because the lloyds is a current account-i asked them to take off o/d. i have a lot of debt with halifax and if lloyds eventually merge with hbos i dont want them offsetting-melanie reasurred me they couldnt but i dont know lloyds policy on people getting a current account then doing an iva-thats why i need a backup.

Its not at all a bad idea and as it happens I got a Lloyds and then a Co-op, as with a co-op basic account you do stand a chance of getting your money out. I was just saying that might be why its been deferred, that fact that you tried at the same time for two accounts and different banks. Coop do take a little longer than Lloyds in my experience, I walked out of Lloyds with an account number. I didnt like the account number and later on I went into the Co-op.

Lloyds were fine with me with me when I went into my IVA and they were happy for me to keep my account when I went BR.
