Hello! My partner has opened a bank account for me to use with Barclays, so obviously the account is in his name. Barclaycard (or Egg, who I have the debt with)are one of my creditors. What would happen if I got my name added to this account so it becomes joint? Could Barclaycard touch our money in there? They do not know I am in an IVA. I have just been using this account for my own salary but it would be nice to have it it my name also. Could anyone touch our joint funds? I've been in an IVA since April. Any help would be appreciated

Hi,

I wouldn't advise having a joint account as it could impact on your partners credit rating.

Is this really true?

Yes, SaladFingers. If you have any joint accounts you will them be linked financially and any search on one credit file will bring up the gremlins of the other. There is a possibility that when applying to have your name on the account, Barclays will catch on and try to downgrade or close the account ... best to leave sleeping dogs lie.
