Hiya Charlie and welcome to the forum.

so you havent started an IVA yet and the bank has stopped your account already .. thats a bit ripe.

I would suggest that you go and get yersel a basic account from another bank pronto , which bank are you with ?

The Nationwide, barclays, ccop etc do good basic accounts ..

Im BR so my situation is a little different but I would a) chase the bank to see what they are going to do with your wages, b) get another bank account & c) get you employer to put yer wages in the new account

Hi. Mish is right. First thing, get a new bank accounts.

Here is a link to the bank accounts suggested. When you go into the Bank be exact in your requirements, state the account you want by name, otherwise the banks will try and 'sell' you a normal current account which will most probably be declined due to a credit search.

I have no bias to any bank however my recent clients tell me Natwest Step Account is especially good. Cash card, standing orders, direct debts, you just dont get an overdraft or cheque book, which you dont need anyway.

Hope this helps.

The above link is from Payplans site. They have a very good bank account recommendation document. I hope this helps.

When I started my IVA process I applied for a Nat West Step account, it is a basic account (no overdraft, no cheque book etc) but you do get a Solo debit card as well as 24/7 internet banking with a DD facility. I even got a savings account as well!

Natwest are closing accounts for people in IVA's I was contacted by letter giving me 28 days notice that they were closing my account due to being in an IVA.

Thinkbanking are sound though they do charge an initial fee of 25.00 and then 12.50 a month. Very good and esay to open one though.

I would recommend the Co-op or Nationwide.
