I have applied for a new bank account with Lloyds TSB, and they have been great with me. Was with HSBC, but applying for an IVA with HSBC as one of my creditors, so my IP has told me I need to change banks as HSBC will "freeze my account".

Your IP has given you good advice, and hopefully your application will be successful.

I should say that I have had my account approved. I need to pop in to the bank today with my ID, etc - but the account is opened and ready to use - and they are aware of my pending IVA. I have been issued with a debit card, but no cheque book or overdraft (as I requested, and as they confirmed in writing).

Lloyds were fine with me - I was with them before I went into my IVA and as they weren't a creditor I kept the account. I only closed it as when I went BR I wasn't allowed to keep the debit card and I had to have a cash card that could only be used at their own cash points - very inconvenient!
Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

Just to let you all know - I have officially got my account opened with LloydsTSB. I was very open with my account manager about going in to an IVA, and she said as there was no borrowing on the account, there is no problem at all.

Again, just to advise - everything has now been set up by LloydsTSB - debit card, pin number, cheque book, direct debits transferred, set up online - all in less than a week. Very impressed with them.
But is it overdeliver in the early days???

I don't intend using my cheque book often, but it's nice to have it there just in case. But now I am up with online banking, there hopefully won't be the need! [:)]

cr15py, I think that LTSB customer service is generally better than HSBC. I was with HSBC for 10 years and have recently opened a LTSB account like yourself. I've had friendlier customer service in my two trips to the branch to pay money in (even being called by my name!)
It's a shame i've now got to open a Co-op account as I have to go BR, but from what i've heard the co-op customer service is excellent too.

Whilst we are clapping LLoydsTSB on the back I would also like to add that as a creditor they were always polite on the phone, only phoned at agreed times and voted YES at my creditors meeting (they were my main creditor). Shame I had to close my accounts with them [:I]
