I have a good job and salary (£33,500) but have debts of £39,000 - I am struggling to have any life whilst paying my debts off. I'm worried that I will be rejected for an IVA because of my salary level even though each month I can bearly afford to live with debts, rent, travel etc. Is there a calculation they base IVA acceptance on - IE, if I have more than x amount of money to live on does that go against me? My monthly outgoings are approx £1700 per month :(

Hi Kerry, can you provide a list of your incomings and outgoings so that one of the experts on the forum will be able to advise you. Also, please let them know the details of your creditors, and how much you owe to each one.

It's up to you whether you contact one of the experts directly, but I would say contact 2 or 3 companies who are on the forum. One other thing, if you are asked to pay money up front, please make sure that you have it in writing that you will get your money back if your IVA is not accepted.

Hi Kerry

There are no real hard and fast rules with regard to income and expenditure, but obviously the creditors will only agree to reasonable levels. If it helps I have a worksheet on my website, with the usual categories of expenditure, which you might like to use as a guide. Look forward to getting the details soon.
