I think the Website you need is that of the Scottish Insolvency Service - "AIB" - Accountant in Bankruptcy.
It is
www.aib.gov.uk/ROI
But from reading it - I believe there is a charge of £16 for an enquiry or for one days access to it.

Typical that Scotland get a better deal! It would be a good idea if you had to pay to view the insolvency register in England and Wales - it might stop companies like the IVA Council.

Thanks for the reply, I wasn't sure I was looking on the correct site, I was interested why do Scotland charge to do a search and England/Wales don't.

I agree with Skippy (posted just before me).
Just looked on site and annual subscription is £4,000.00, day viewing is £16.00.

I would like to know the answer to that too. The Scottish version sounds admirable. Noone is going to spend £16 on a check (or £4000 For a year!!!!) unless they have a serious reason for doing so. It does seem a lot though!! Given that the population of Scotland is small (relatively) there cant be THAT many people on it!!! (No offence intended to Scottish readers).

There is a similar system in Northern Ireland as well, and insolvency levels per capita are similar in both countries to England and Wales.

Skippy - you just knew that I would have to reply [:D]
Scotland has a different legal system to England, it was all agreed in the Act of Union in 1707 ( year not time ). It has nothing to do with the current government ... even they aren't that old [8D]
Why not canvass your local MP to have the English rules brought into line with the Scottish rules ?
It really does sem to make more sense.
Yes I am Scottish but bide in Suffolk.
