will i have to surrender my debit card?

Not necessarily, so long as you have no debts with the bank you have your current account with, and you don't bank with either HSBC or First Direct who habitually close down accounts when their customers enter into IVAs.

When we entered our IVA I banked with Natwest and my partner banked with Barclays and due to us owing both those banks we had to leave, and was advised to join a bank that do cash card accounts only so joined HSBC so far so good, my partners only wish is that he had a switch card due to the amount of times he has to fill his van up with diesel as some garages do not have cash machines, its a real gripe for him, for me im happy just paying by cash! do you think HSBC would upgrade his card?

If I were you I would open an account with another bank Roisin - HSBC have a policy of closing the accounts of people in IVAs. If they are not one of your creditors I would recommend the Co-op Cashminder account as you get a Visa Electron card and internet banking.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is the present - a gift to make the most of.

Thanks Skippy I will speak to my partner tonight, its a shame as they have been ok(ish) and its just a pain having to change everything over again, but i think telling my partner that they will give him a visa electron will be the winning card, and to be honest i dont want to find in a few months time they want to close our account! i will log onto to Co-Ops website now

I have a co op cash minder account which is very good.

I also use a cash plus mastercard as well which I found to be useful.

I have also opened a Halifax easy cash account and just started a bread account!

We also have the cash plus card too, have not used it for ages though due to no spare funds to upload. What is this Bread Card i keep reading about?
