Just wondering, in light (no pun intended!) of NPower's 15% hike in prices whether changing providers of electric and gas is possible during an IVA?

Do they not perform a credit check on you then?

Was looking in to this last night, and I reckon I can save £25 per month by switching to Scottish Power or E.on from NPower - if I went for this, would there be any credit check problems facing me?

Also, we pay by DD every month, what happens to the balance that is left (we probably owe about £60 from the DD shortfall) - is that collected by NPower or rolled forward to the new supplier?

Has anyone had dealings with SP/E.on?

If anything is worth changing for it is a fix rate.

Now might not be the right time to shift company just because they are cheaper today. This is the start of the increases, so you might jump ship only to find that your new suppliers charges have increase more than the original.

They did say the other day that it is best to wait a couple of months before switching as the others will more than likely follow suit. Also if you have a debit it does have to be clear before the change they wont carry it over, or wouldnt when I asked a few weeks ago.
What i did do was speak to my supplier saying that I was thinking of changing and they immediately looked at how I could save on my account. I saved quite a bit just by changing to online billing, all you do is read the meter yourself and put the readings in on the website, really good actually as you can see all your bill history and see if you are saving. I also get tesco clubcard points as well now.

I agree with Beechy. Have a look at www.moneysavingexpert.com Martyn Lewis is a fantastic source of info and advice on all aspects of money saving including energy supply switching. ( if only we'd found this site 6 years ago !!!! )

i have tried switching before, but nothing goes how it should. I dont really think long term we save anything swapping about all the time. Un less you were to swap every couple of months to get the best deal. Because if price go up with one supplier they all follow suit eventually
