I have been advised by citiziens advice that these people are the best people to deal with for debt management and ivas,does anybody have any experience of them?
citizien advice have also advised that it is bad advice to stop making payments in the run up to an iva proposal?
any views

I would advocate the view that you should continue to make token payments to your creditors whilst an IVA proposal is being considered.
All IP's will give you the best advice based on the information provided, however I would suggest that you contact at least 2.

about £37k and less than £100 pound left a month.

Hi
Me and my husband were put on to Payplan via Debt Free Direct, which was out first point of call, initially we decided to try a DMP but it then transpired that not all creditors were happy and willing to freeze charges etc and Lloyds TSB were very helpfully slapping £80+ charges onto my account so the debt has just got bigger for that reason we decided to go for an IVA and our creditors meeting is tomorrow at 10:00am.
I have to say we are both vey happy with Payplan, they are always there at the end of the phone, always reply promptly to your questions and really make you feel like the world isn't against you, once we had made the decision to gor for an IVA then everything moved very quickly as CCJs had already began to be taken against us by that point - can't complain about Payplan at all - it is however up to you at the end of the day and who you feel comfortable dealing with and more importantly who you feel you can trust - best of luck

Unfortunately I can't say the same for Payplan. They were recommended to me by my union and yes they were quick in responding but I didn't find them very nice. Maybe it was just the adviser I got. Very judgemental and condenscending, missed asking about some things and I just assumed they couldn't be included, said I was not allowed the amounts I was paying for gas and electric but thats what the power companies demand, I was told I would just have to economise but I only have my heating on 19C anyway. There were a few things that they said wouldn't be allowed and since speaking to this forum it seems they are wrong. I am not going with them. I am fairly new to this forum but have found it so much help in the few days I have been online. Still dithering about what to do but getting there!

I don't agree that it's bad advice to not make payments leading upto an IVA.
You must take your own IPs advice on this point and stick to it.
Whether you make token payments or not will have no bearing on the outcome of your IVA.
CAB should not recommend just one provider.

I thought that CAB were supposed to be impartial in their recommendations? Perhaps the North Derbyshire branch could comment upon the relationships they have with IP and DMP firms.

I think that you will find most Bureax refer to Payplan !!
I agree that there should be a wider consideration by the Bureax

I was with payplan on a DMP but found the staff to be rude and hard to understand as I dont think there call centre is UK based (I maybe wrong).. This caused a mix up in information for example: Wrong account information and numbers which caused a delay in payments to creditors meaning I had missed payment fees ect.
I then asked to be put in contact with there IVA department where things got better as the IVA department was on the ball and got things moving and were there every step of the way.

I approached Payplan when I was first looking into an IVA and to be honest I wasn't overly impressed.
I couldn't speak to anyone when I first called and was told that someone would call me back, but please phone me in the evening. They actually phoned me 2 days later, during the day, and told Dave where they were calling from! He knew about my situation so it didn't matter, but I know a lot of people don't want others knowing.

My expereience with Payplan has been difficult to say the least - unhelpful, flipant and condescending staff, late replies to queries (if any reply at all), very confusing advice, some of which has almost lost me my home - and without this forum, this would have happened. I am still resorting to advice from this forum as I do not trust their advice.
