I am on Income Support an therefore have no disposable income. My debts are in the region of £130,000 and I have no assets. The local Court waive their fee, but that still leaves £350 to find. Is there any help available with this?

Hi,

I would try your local citizens advice bureau. They would be able to advise you further.

Hello davl,

Could you stop paying your minimum payments to creditors, this could then give you some money to pay the needed £350?

I have stopped paying all money to creditors, have told them I am going bankrupt. I am "living" on state benefits now, as I am a carer. I do get Income Support though not sure if that makes any difference??

Hi Davl

As strange as this may sound but some water suppliers have set up water trust funds, see article below

Water Trust Funds
A number of water companies operate charitable trust funds. Some offer help only with water and sewerage debt; others are prepared to help with other priority debts and even bankruptcy fees in certain situations. Others offer 'restart schemes'. These operate on the basis of you entering into a regular payment scheme, and payments made are then matched by the trust fund. If you maintain the arrangement, the remaining debt may be written off. You will need to contact the trust fund to find out how to apply. You will usually have to fill in a form. You may need an advice agency to help you. Phone us for advice.

Thank you Carl,

This looks promising, though it looks as though I need to be referred by an Adviser. Where do I find one of those? Looks like only help with Water though, not with bankruptcy fee??

"Welsh Water/Dwr Cymru
Telephone: 0800 052 0145
"Customer Assistance Fund" You must be referred by a money adviser and complete an application form. After you have made payments for 6 months, the fund pays half your water arrears. After another 6 months' payments the rest of the arrears will be paid."

Unfortunately I'm stuck with Npower who won't let me move to a cheaper supplier till I clear the arrears. It's trying to find the £350 bankruptcy fee that's the real problem with me!

Hiya, is there no possibility that one of your creditors will force bankruptcy on you? If you have that amount of debt I can't imagine your creditors leaving you alone and one of them might just apply to make you bankrupt. Might be worth looking into.

Unfortunately no-one is going to make me bankrupt, I have asked them all individually and jointly. As I have no assets there would be nothing in it for them!

That's a pity, I know how difficult it is, we've had to scrape together the cash for myself and my husband which is nearly £1000, definately a lot of money when you don't have any!!! Anyhow, good luck with your search
