Hi Angela

Generally civil service jobs should be ok but take a look at what your contract of employment says. You might need to disclose it.

Thanks Ian

I looked in the Guide today and it advised to inform of any financial or personal matters, but had a massive wave of panic as scared stiff with situation to start with, without adding to my worries

I think bankruptcy is the only thing they really worry about(I'm there as well!) It may really only have a bearing if you want a job that involves the full security check(they check finance, sexuality etc) for sensitive posts.

I have lots of civil servants as clients, most of whom have worried about their ongoing employment in the same way you are Angela. You should perhaps put what an IVA is into context - you have agreed with your creditors a method of repayment which suits both you and them. I really do not feel that this is something you need to share with your employers, the arrangement is a private one between you, your creditors and your IP, however if you feel the need for some reassurance, your personnel department ought to be able to speak to you on a confidential basis.

I have a couple of tax inspectors as clients - and they do not seem to have had any problems!

thanks melanie thats put my mind at ease, i might have a word with my manager and see how the land lies... I feel so stupid for us getting ourselves into this situation to start off with. Just don't feel like having to justify myself to employers also

But don't feel stupid for doing something positive about it! You should be very proud of yourself in that you are repaying your debts to the best of your ability, when a lot of people may have just walked away and declared themselves bankrupt.

Angela I was recently made perm in the Civil Service and work in Finance (lol) and my manager said my IVA had nothing to do with anybody except me and my creditors. I never even mentioned it on any of the forms as advised by him. Bankrupcy is an entirely different matter though. Don't know if HMRC is different but I shouldn't think so.
