Hi mraw and welcome to the forum

Yes the Council are able to make you bankrupt as technically your Council Tax is due in full on 1 April of every year. Did you also have arrears from other years?

Councils tend to target this course of action against homeowners - they tend to leave people they know who are tenants alone.

Are you a homeowner?
If so, is there equity in your propoerty and if so how much?
Do you have other debts?

If you do own your own home, given the destructive nature of bankruptcy it might be worth looking into the alternatives.

I would be interested to know how much your arrears are for, any previous years debts, any previous attachment of earnings?
