Hi
The one thing that does worry me about our IVA and I bet alot of people is we dont have anything in our I&E for household items breaking, ie washer, dryer, cooker etc..etc.. We should be allowed an amount everyone month for house maintenance.

I am now only 2 months into my IVA and my daughters bed has collapsted and she now urgently needs a new bed. ???

Was there no contingency allowance in your proposal?

Sorry to hear about your daughters bed, I would speak to your IP about this. You may be able to come to an arrangement, to enable you to buy a new bed.

Your IP should always allow for contingency payments for such incidents? Was there nothing in your expenditure to cover you for this?

I've got a similar problem at the moment with my washing machine that has packed up. Luckily it is insured, because it had to be repaired in the first year, and I managed to get Curry's to provide me with a 3 year extended warranty on it because they messed me around so much! But I agree, the contingency/household maintenance fund should cover this - the only problem being that only 2 months into your IVA, you probably haven't had much chance to build one up yet!

Hi Caraf,

It might also be worth joining your local freecycle group for this very reason. it is a fantastic site (very green!) where people get rid of stuff thatb they no longer need whether is be working or not working. From my local group in Poole there are always bed frames up for offer. The only thing with freecycle is you do need to collect and you do need to offer an item first before taking one but you can offer literally anything!!
