I know I posted this before, but now I have something concrete I thought I would slide the question from another angle.

Currently in an IVA, 2nd payment made (£270pm on a £16500 debt)

I have been looking for a second job, and believe I have found one (being a chat host on a bingo website of all things!) - the income is taxed at source as employment income and there will be very little in the way of outgoings associated with it.

My question is what happens with the income I generate from this (I am estimating probably 15 hours per week at £6/hour = £90 pw = £390/mth gross = £312/mth net)?

Obviously if I had to put all that in to my IVA then it wouldn't be worth my while doing it apart from possibly relieving boredom!

I would be interested in your thoughts.

It will depend on the terms and conditions of your IVA but I think that it is worth positioning this to your IP and seeing if you can come to an amicable arrangement which will suit both you and your creditors.

That sounds good fun! But as the others have said do check out that you are not going to have to give it all up to creditors. If your IVA is silent on the treatment of additional income, you may have to hand it all over and then you would question why you are doing it?

Hi
Hopefully common sense will prevail and you can agree a 50/50 split with your IP.
At your annual review your IP can report that 'the debtor has taken a second job to increase the dividend to their creditor,as such I have decided to treat the second income as overtime and request that 50% of net pay be paid into the IVA'
Now wouldn't that make sense ?

Does sound like a fun thing to do Chris[:)] - I used to have a part time job where I worked from home for a major car insurance firm logging new claims and arranging recoveries, etc. Massively understaffed and I was the only person answering phones on a sat afternoon/ Sunday which was stressful to put it lightly[:0]
I have thought about looking for another part time job, but have decided that I work longer than average hours in the week I need my rest at the weekend. I would not be put off by half would go into my iva as half of something is better than nothing but as I say I enjoy my weekends to myself now.

Good luck if you decide to do it though as sounds great

What does a chat host actually do? It all sounds a bit naughty!

Chat hosts basically monitor the chat and have the ability to remove people if they swear or break site rules.......I think

Groannnnnnnnnnn OT!!!!

A chat host basically does monitor the chat for bad language, bad behaviour etc, but they do also manage chat games, etc. It does sound really good fun - and handing over 50% I would be OK with, but any more than that and it barely sounds worthwhile doing!!

I contacted my IP and his advice is that I would probably be expected (by my creditors) to hand it all over, or a proportion "significantly greater than 50%".

Bearing in mind I am repaying £270pm on a £16,500 debt, presumably this would mean I would be achieving the 100p/£ rather quickly, especially given that I also have the 50% clause of anything over 10% of my normal net pay? (I've just paid over an additional £120 this month!)
