I'm thinking of changing broadband supplier as there are better deals around. I set up present broadband a few months before IVA was agreed, most deals seem to come with a 12 month contract. I doubt it's credit as if I don't pay it would be cancelled, but is it likely to require a credit check to set up. I don't want to go through all the hassle and then get declined, also if I tried to switch would this affect my current broadband deal if it fell through.

If you tried and failed to switch it wouldn't affect your present supplier. I think it would depend on how expensive the deal was you were after as to how strict the credit check would be. Maybe you could check out their T&C's on the website before contacting them about transferring,

thanks, had a good look around their website but couldn't find any references to credit checks etc. Usual case of lots of information I didn't need to know, but nothing useful.

Noramlly the case, BUT if they are carrying out a credit check they have to inform you before they do it, either verbally or in their T&C's(even though it's probably in the small print of the small print!!!Lol)

I'm with talktalk and yes it is very cheap our package all together is just over £25.00 with 8mb.

Just try a couple of companies but ask your IP before you do it.

i never got credit checked when i got my Broadband as if you can't pay they will CUT YOU OFF!!!

I changed from AOL to BT at the end of last year. OK, I had to sign up to an 18 month contract, but I have had great service, and as I pay my BT bills by monthly direct debit it hasn't cost me any more a month. I also did not have any credit checks as I was already a BT customer

I thought AOL were Crap!!!

Hi again Andrew,

I actually liked AOL, but they were way to expensive (£35) for the best package. BT are good though, and we signed up to broadband talk, got a new number and so don't have to listen to nasty creditors phone calls anymore! I felt so much better just by being able to answer the phone again.

We went with Talk Talk last year, nothing but trouble. I genuinley would not recommend them to my worst enemy.
Then went with BT broadband who have been great.

if you can get be broadband in you area (up to 24Mb) in your area for £18 p/m go for it.

no traffic shaping/download limits

i really cant give them enough of a big cheer

obviously it depends on how far you are from your exchange and the quality of your line, but unlike other ISPs they will give you an estmiate speed b4 you sign on unlike the "up to 8mb" and you get 4mb guys

I thought BT was over priced rubbish to be honest! We had their 'service' when we lived in the flat and the speed was appalling, every time someone else in the block logged on I was kicked off of the internet and don't even get me started about their customer non-service!

We changed to Sky when we moved and it's so much better and cheaper - we've gone from paying £25 a month to £5 a month.

I wouldn't go with BT on principle, their customer service is horrendous! I was with Talktalk for years and when they first started their c/service was exceptionally good, by the time I left it was exceptionally bad.... it was nigh-on impossible to get to speak to someone 'real' when we had problems.
We're with Virgin now since we moved, ((for our sins)) and tied into the contract until dec' this year but think we will be returning to sky and getting the combined service from them as we've heard good thing about them.(((credit check willing!!! lol))) [;)]

Have had no problems with BT Customer Services, and the internet service is great. I have never been booted off at all, and when I am at home I tend to leave the laptop on all day and check back from time to time - no problems at all.

it's mad that even in this day BT have no actual obligation to provide adsl on their lines. Any problems and they nearly always run away. Their terms an conditions still say that they are only responsible for providing voice calls
