This is a question which has been on my mind a little bit and may need to be answered by a Professional.

Say that i had 7 credit cards and maybe a couple of loans with a total debt of say £40000 for an example and had financial difficulties in meeting my payments and was well in arrears getting Court and Final Demand Letters plus the Non- Stop Phone Calls without going for a debt solution and carrying on as i am.

If i was employed by a Financial Firm or Police or HM Forces i would most probably still be in a job as i would not be admitting i have a debt problem with £40000 of debt as i am carrying on struggling as i am

If i started to deal with the debt of £40000 with an IVA and tackle it Legally by contributing for 60 months ,the employers will see me as a risk and i could lose my job.

All of the above is just an example , but the question is
if i have a major debt problem and really struggled with astronomical debt , the employers will not know or do anything.
I f i entered an IVA to sort it out , then the employers of say Police ,Armed Forces or Financial Firm will know and your job will be at risk

Thats not really a question Andrew,but what you are saying is that if you get a grip on your finances and try to sort things out using an IVA or DMP then in certain professions your job may well be at risk. AS for whether you are better off struggling along I wouldnt advise it,coz the big hole just get deeper and the sides get steeper and it gets harder and harder to climb out without help!!!

I think Andrew is already in his IVA plasticdaft. I understand what you're saying, this has been tackled in another post. I think it's a shame that people who have recognised they have a debt problem and are sorting it out are penalised by certain employers.

i know what you are saying and i too think it is so unfair that when we try to sort our debts out we can get penalised, it is such a pity that some employees still seem to have the view that a iva or bancruptcy is a crime! it seems sometimes you cant win!

I am employed by the police, I have not told them of my IVA, neither do I intend to.

As far as I know they will not check up unless I decide to apply for another internal job (which I won't be doing).

My force has recently sent out an email to everyone with lists of firms like Payplan and CAB and saying that they realise that people might be having problems.

My stepdaughter works in finance and she has CCJ's and is in DMP. She even changed her job last year and had no problems doing so.

I don't think that all employers will check up on you.

I think that today there are so many people in personal debt and the only way to deal with it is to get some professional help and resolve it by opting for a Debt Solution.
I don't understand why IVA's are such a risk to employers as you are at least paying a large proportion of the debt back unlike Bankruptcy.

People that are Robbing Peter to pay Paul and are in massive arrears and not admitting they have encountered Financial Difficulties still running up there already overstretched credit cards are
what i call MORALLY BANKRUPT!!! anyway.
They are more of a risk not admitting they have a problem or they are in Denial about having a problem.

It's like being a raving Alcoholic with a massive drink problem
i go to Alcoholics Anonymous to get help then get punished for doing so!!
It's totally ridiculous
