Hey all,

As most of you might know, I'm RUBBISH with computers. I can't fix them when something is wrong, I can use excel and word but no idea what powerpoint is and I'm sure there is lots for me to learn..... especially as I now need a job, this is really important to me.

The local council are advertising their nightschool courses for September and they have an ECDL course. I phoned up to enquire but I have to go to the enrollment night to find out what it's all about.

Can anyone tell me what I will learn, is this for me? Do I need a better course? Or an easier course?

Any thoughts? Thanks folks. [:)] X

Hi Viki,

Some colleges do free computer courses, but I think they may be really basic ones.

ECDL is the European computer driving licence course and it looks as though there are various levels you can do.

Google it, there should be plenty of info on there.

Hi Viki - ECDL is the "in" course employees recognise. Its taken over from CLAIT but covers pretty much the same. I've got the ECDL and ECDL advanced so if I can do it anyone can!

Thanks Julie, I think I'm going to give it a go, it's three hours a week for a year so it's got to cover most things hasn't it? X

I teach ECDL as I am an IT tutor anything you need to know I'll try and help, the units above are correct but there is also a Unit E which is a reading module followed by a multiple choice answer paper, Unit 1 concepts of IT is the same in our college unless you do it online as with learndirect.
Module E: Using IT

Legal issues associated with computing
Health and Safety
Good Practice
Computer applications and relevance to everyday tasks.

I did the earlier equivalent of this course when I was in the Army and it is brilliant. I found it was a good stepping stone to other courses thus developing more knowledge along the way.
