Sorry to hear that Quark - have you officially got Swine Flu or is it a precaution? Have you had many people turning up at the hospital with it? I hope you're feeling better soon.

Good luck with the review, it sounds positive. Let us know how you get on xxx

It seems i do or have had a bout of it, i'm a bit chesty now that's all, and my GP was of the opinion that because of my ticker playing up at times it was best to start Tamiflu and reduce the risk of a chest infection. Anyway, i'm not dwelling on feeling a little under par, i have packing to do and have the time to do it. Though i am taking good care of myself, plenty of fluids etc etc. Yeah we have had literally tons and tons of patients presenting in A&E, granted yes they are feeling and looking awful, people must however take control of their own health sometimes, be reassured or encouraged to take some responsibilty for it, it is hitting our staffing very badly, and if half the staff are off sick then the hospital will fall on it's knees. They come in and cough and splutter and demand to see a doctor, it's a little unfair when there is so much public health info out there. We are dreading the winter, when you have regular winter flu, Norovirus and now Swine Flu, it actually quite a scarey time for us on the front line so to speak.

I hope you're soon on the mend.

I can't believe that with all the information out there (some of it contradictory!) people are still irresponsible enough to go to A & E when half of them probably only have a cold anyway! Don't they realise that they are putting everyone else at risk?

Personally I worry more about norovirus each winter than I do about swine flu!

Sorry to hear that you are under the weather Quark, and hope you feel better soon.

I agree with Skippy that I worry more about things like norovirus and regular flu, than I do with this. However, it does annoy me when I am in Asda when I see people coughing and sneezine without at least putting a hand infront of their nose and mouth.

At least people seem to have stopped talking about staying indoors and panic buying from the supermarkets!

I also can't bear spitting - it should be a criminal offence!

I agree about the panic buying - when the news about swine flu first broke I read about people panic buying bottled water in case the water supply was infected!

Spitting is one of the most disgusting habits about! I also think it should be outlawed!

I've been spat at whilst on duty, and i'm afraid i responded non too professionally, it's actually classed as an assault, that and having someone suck their teeth at me, get's me seething instantly. Though these days as soon as a patient is aggressive for non clinical reasons they've lost the chance of me caring for them and they are out the doors.... And i'm feeling quite a bit more with it thank you ladyh, i'm tucked up in my jamas, nice and cosy, hot milk and honey with a bit of whiskey in it, yummy, i do say i'm a little flushed, oops more hot milk i think to go with that !!!!

Get well soon Quark!

I popped into my dr yesterday to make an appointment and the first thing I said was:

"Dont worry I dont have swine flu, lamb flu or any other type of flu and if I had I wouldnt be here infecting you!"

The receptionist giggled! Think she had had a rough day..........

1 step xx
