Things parents would never get away with now .
Was often threatened to be sent to live in the bad boy's home.
Was put in the car and driven round the block until I changed my tone.
It always seemed to do the trick .

I was brought up in a single parent family in the 60's which was pretty much unheard of. My mum was very lenient and never really had a punishment or a threat. Other kids were cruel to us for not having a Dad I remember that to this day. x

I used to be smacked if I was naughty, and if it was something really bad (like the day I went to the park after being told I couldn't - I was probably about 8 and at that time there was a child murderer on the loose in the area)it was a garden cane round my legs.
I also used to have my comics stopped for a week as well!
Very rarely did we hit daughter but I'm afraid she's been raved at on more than one occasion![:D]

Not being allowed to play out was the ultimate deterent, whereas these days not being allowed to stay IN would have a similar effect [:0][:D]

I was an only child so didn't have that problem. Once I had been walloped, I never did the same thing again.
It certainly did me no harm.

Jan, if only your chosen career had the same effect on the scum bags that roam the streets nowadays!

Probably more to do with the laws than 'the Law' and the shyster lawyers.

I have (at the minute) what I consider to be the perfect teenager (almost 17) and I threaten her that she's going to be sent out with the Chavs as it would be her worst nightmare! x

It's all to do with the human rights laws and what you can and can't do.
Gone are the days when you could use the threat of a policeman or they used to just give you a clip round the ear and take you home and tell your parents where you could expect the same!

My mother had a thick leather strap about 1/4" thick which she had especially made ... also a sawn off broom shaft. Both of these were in easy reach, and used often on me . Funny I don't remember my brother or sisters getting the same daily treatment. And people wonder why I left home at 15.

I was always quite good as a kid - only times I got smacked was when, my Dad had to take me on a taxi job straight after school with one of his regulars, it was a long journey n he had to take the lady shopping. Well I was not happy n played up, they had to come home early n nearly lost my Dad a regular client - that the one only time my dad ever smacked me. The other was off my Mum, when I ran away from home when I was 10 n the police brought me back, I hadn't got far or for long - but I got a proper beating for that. The only thing that annoys me is they didn't try to find out or understand why I did it.
I don't really know where I stand within the laws now with my boys, one is really well behaved but can be stroppy, the other can be very naughty n does not know when to stop.
Had to edit my grammar!)

My daughter played up in Focus DIY once and really showed me up - I'm afraid she was dragged outside and had her legs smacked!
