Went to take my grandtwins home tonight and luckily spotted what I thought was an oil leak, it turns out I've no oil left! My son in law will come tomorrow as it's too dark now but is this going to be a major cash job one wonders? Son in law says he'll know more when he sees it which is obvious and there isn't oil all over the engine, it has literally poured out. Anyone throw any ideas in? I've got RAC cover but not home start....grrr

Lesley, cars do not eat oil, if the level is low with no sign of a leak on your drive/path/road then it will be dissappearing through the exhaust system. If your son in law knows his stuff then he may be able to sort it, if not then it needs to be seen by a garage

Sorry Andy, badly written post, the oil is definitely all over the road and as I drove away you could see where it's dripped. x

Have you gone over a speedbump or other such obstacle and clipped the underside of the car recently?

Have you topped it up recently? if so there may be too much in and the excess has found a way out. If not then the seal around the sump is a possibility or the oil filter has been damaged by a wayward rock.

Not as far as we know Paul, I've just asked hubby and he's pleading innocent too!

It was serviced in July and not touched the oil since x

Was the oil filter replaced at the last service? Did the new filter seal properly? An inspection at close quarter will find out.

Without looking at the paperwork Andy I wouldn't know, but do know where it is, so will have a look when I go upstairs. SIL will come tomorrow and hopefully sort it, he'll fix it if he can for the price of parts and a roast beef dinner x

My mates little diesel fiesta was ruined by a trainee mechanic from ford not tightening up the new oil filter. By the time he drove the car the 8 miles home the engine seized up at the end of his street!!

No oil filter was ever found!!!!

ooooh not good Paul, well it was serviced in July so it's been running fine until tonight, I have been out in it this afternoon too and it was fine.

It did turn over tonight fine and pull out the parking space but luckily I noticed the trail of oil behind the car! Engine looks clean, it's coming from below she says not really knowing anything!

Hopefully son in law will be able to solve it and if not and it needs the garage not sure what I'll do?

son in law has been, when the car was serviced they haven't tightened up the oil filter!! he can turn it by hand!!

Well he could easily fix it but I've told him to leave it for today as I'm on to that garage tomorrow and I want them to fix it and replace all my oil!! He said there is no way it could just 'come' loose over time if done properly!
