i want to buy a coat for £97 i borrow £50 off my mum and £50 off my dad leaving me with £3 change. i keep a £1 for myself and give my dad £1 back and my mum £1 back so i owe my mum £49 and my dad £49 which equals £98, pus the £1 i kept, equals £99, what happened to the other £1

it is the words that are confusing!
£50 borrowed plus £50 borrowed = £100 you spent £97 leaving you with £3 change.
You paid back Mum £1 and Dad £1 so you actually only borrowed £98.
The £1 that is left is the change left from the £97 you originally spent out of the total amount borrowed, I think!
