Well ... I have (or am about to) become the dad of an 8 week old ginger tom. He is destined to live as a house cat as I live in a top floor flat, but I am told he will be happy, as he has never yet been outside.

We uded to have a house rabbit, as you know, and young Foggy really misses his pet and I thought this would be a new buddy for him.

Any and all advice welcome [:)]

Foggy I'm so jealous, I'm broody for a kitten! What are you going to call him?

Advice - make sure you have him neutered to try and avoid him 'marking his territory'! Buy a scratching post - not all cats will use one but you've got more chance of convincing a kitten to use it. Use Catsan cat litter as it really does hide smells. Get him insured - even if he's an indoor cat it's worth it. Get him plenty of toys to keep him occupied - catnip toys are brilliant!

Enjoy him!

Yes, Jan, I always had dogs before, but got so upset when the last one died I vowed not to have another (since then I moved into a flat, so it wouldn't have been fair to the dog anyway).

Skippy, haven't decided on a name yet, I will leave that to the young 'un when he knows! Yes, we will get him insured. Lily cost us enough at the vets, I imagine a cat will cost more !!

Scratching post --- good call :0)

Oh how exciting Foggy!!!

We have 2 cats ( plus The Dobster)...I totally agree with Skippy on the Catsan, no other litter compares [:D]

With the toys, a ball of wool will keep the kitten occupied for hours.

Start brushing him from the start so he gets used to it, again our 2 now love it when the brush comes out.

Can't wait to hear the name [:)]

Speaking of brushing, look for 'Zoom Groom' on Amazon. We bought Harry one and he loves it, he goes all soppy when we groom him!

Ah bless! We used to keep our cats in as we lived on a main road. As long as they've never been out then it's fine.

I've always wanted a house rabbit. They areso cute!

Oh Foggy I'm so jealous - would love a kitten. I used to keep indoor cats (6) and also worked in rescue centre because they were next door to me (many years ago). Indoor cats are actually very happy as long as they can run around and play and all they need really is loads of love and affection. The litter tray will need frequent attention though otherwise you could have a smelly flat! Maybe place somewhere near some ventilation. You'll need a good scratching post (easily made) and some toys but you and your little Foggy will have hours of fun. Make sure you have him neutered as soon as allowed and brush him daily from the start and he will love it. My cat goes crazy as soon as she sees the brush in my hand - can't get enough. I am so excited for you - hope it goes well x

Well, the new addition has arrived. Little Foggy is over the moon. After a quick look around his face was right into the food bowl !!!

As for names, we went through Marmalade, Barney, Cat, Tigger, ptitchat (pronounced tee-shaa, french for little cat), but little foggy seems to have settled for Fred ( no idea where that came from). I was worried he'd be called Optimus Prime !!
