Having one of those weeks and need to vent....
Been suffering with migraines, alopecia and insomnia, so i get diagnosed with Stress. Come home to find washing machine has packed up.

That being bad enough, one of my cats starts to struggle to breath on wednesday night so off to the Vets on Thursday, nothing obvious so he keeps her in for sedation and futher examination. Cost estimate £200-£480 depending on what he finds. I speak to vet this morning who tells me he can't find anything but doesn't have specialist equipment to check her nasal passages, so wants to refer her to specialist. Min cost £1000! Now the cat is insured but.....we have to front fund and then recover from insurance! We struggling to raise funds for the current bill and there is no way we can front £1000+.

We paid £350 for car repairs in May as well, no IVA impact for that just used savings from allowances.

I've agreed a reduced payment next month to cover the washing machine, but my monthly iva payment was made on monday!

Who needs alopecia, i'm gonna tear the rest of my hair out!

I'm so sorry you're having a bad time at the moment. Is there anyone who can help you with the vet fees, or can you speak to your IP about a complete payment break?

Sorry to read that SB, what a horrid time you've been having. See if the insurers can do anything for you as £1000 is a lot to find up front IVAor no IVA! I hope your cat is going to be ok keep us posted how everything goes.

Sprowston...do you receive any benefits at all or Council tax reductions?

If so, (or maybe if a parent/in law does) then the PDSA is a much cheaper option for looking after the cat. The standard of care is excellent and you make a donation, whatever you can afford.

Since my rant/post i've googled the referral centre who state they are able to bill CERTAIN insurers direct...here's hoping!

Unfortunately thre is no one able to help, the family don't know about my IVA and both sets of parents are retired and living off relativly small pensions.

I'd give the insurance company a call, if you find out that they can sort it out directly it will be a big weight off your shoulders. One of my dogs had a major emergency operation last year which was in excess of £1.5k, all I had to do was provide my insurance details.

Also, I think its worth checking with the vet that the additional investigations are going to alter the management of your cat & are definitely necessary. I was offerred an MRI for my dog who had seizures, at a cost of £1000 as the basic investigations didnt show a cause. After some consideration I declined as it would not have changed his quality of life or life expectancy.

Just because we can do things, it doesn't always mean we have to, just my opinion.

Fingers crossed that you are at the end of your run of bad luck and you get things sorted with your cat.

Don't know if I am just devoid of feeling towards animals but ..... £1000 for a cat bill?? When I've got 3 kids to look after it just wouldn't happen.

With the money I've wasted over the years and the situation I have put myself into my priorities have completely changed and my time and money are now dedicated to looking after my children and giving them the best upbringing I can (as well as paying off my IVA). We did have a dog, it cost us money at the vets (only £120) so we gave it away before we ended up with extra cost. I know this might sound harsh but for me it was just prioritising.

I know people get attached to pets, and I'm different in that way, I love animals and wouldn't hurt them but they are not a priority for me.

Anyway ..... good luck with the cat, I hope it's get better quickly and you get around the money problems [8D]

I have three dogs at the moment and, thankfully, they have cost me nothing other than annual jabs. I have them all insured and would speak to the insurance company to see if the vet could claim directly as I know mine is quite happy to do that.

I could never give up my pets. I have a daughter and grandchild who live here but my daughter fends for herself now. My pets and my hubby are my priority.

Hope your pet gets better. Family is family whether children or pets. I have no pets but I remember when I was younger we had a dog. It died after 12 years . My brother was that devastated he took off round the world travelling. His heart was broken. Hope they will pay directly for you. Me I have 8 kids no room for pets lol!

I sincerely hope your cat receives top class treatment and is better soon.

I appreciate we're all different but for me an animal is as much of a priority as a human! Harry is purring beside me at the moment and I couldn't give him up if he cost £12,000 let alone £120 - I've always said I would willingly get into debt again for him! The love from an animal is priceless.

I`ve got a choc lab and a moggie cat, and I love them both with all my heart.

My pets are my kids as far as my life goes.
