Haven't posted much for the last few weeks for a huge reason.

Having decided many moons ago not to have children I now find myself with a 16 year old in the house! My niece has had problems and has now decided she wants to live with me and hubby.

My what a change to our lives! I am so pleased we did the IVA - there is no way I could have afforded to do this 18 months ago. It's very expensive, not much money coming forward for her but I am trying to manage on our income at present, which is very very hard!

She's busy looking for a part time job which will be a godsend! Wouldn't change things though, the house is more alive and she helps me when I am ill.

Now things are more settled I hope to be back on the forum more.

Kazzafunk it is amazing just how much life teenager's can bring to your household I have a 16 and 14 year old daughter and they problems are so serious to them but yet when they come to me for advice they just think I am amazing because I can help them sort them out I just wish I could freeze their world's and they didn't have to enter the big world of debt and adulthood. Good luck and enjoy your time with your Niece there will be ups and downs sometimes feeling like a rollercoaster but it is fun and rewarding[:)]

Thank you for that! I must admit I have never laughed so much as I have in the last few weeks (and also cried buckets with her).

She makes me forget my illness for a while and even if that only lasts for an hour a day and negatives to this situation are well worth it.

Kazzafunk what a special aunty you are ! Enjoy the times with her and I am sure the money side of things will resolve.
I know that my front door would always be open to my nieces - am very close to them and they often call us their second parents.

We're a very small family and all children are adults. We are grandparents though and will be looking after the baby when the daughter goes back to work.

Have to say that I'm thankful the others don't call on us too often as we are both getting selfish in our old age and would like this time on our own!!!

My door is open to any of my 7 (soon to be 8 grandchildren) and always will be. I'm also going to be an Aunty for the first time next February yay!

Kazzafunk what you're doing is lovely and as long as you bring joy and comfort to each other...carry on as you are, it's obviously good for you both. xx

Well done, what a lovely Aunt you are,

rather you than me though having a teenager in the house... All those hormones, I was so glad when my two were through teenage years.

Kazza.... I have an auntie like you, and she is more than an auntie, she is one of my safe places, secret keeper and bum kicker when I need it. She is my auntie, godmother and friend.

What you are doing is great.

Want to adopt me? LOL

Glad she's settling in Kazza.

I have to say you are better than me - I panic if OH's grandchildren even visit so I'd move out if they ever came to stay!

What a lovely aunty you are Kazza, i too was like yourself didn't have children, then got divorced. At the age of 49 met my now partner who had two young children who are now 14 1/2 and 10 1/2, it is amazing at the laughs and tears that come with them, glad to say more laughs than tears. I hear myself telling them things that my mum told me lol. Good luck with your niece xxx
