The theme for National Poetry Day is Stars, seeing as IVA.co.uk is a shining light for many I thought it quite apt.

Good people of this forum
We're mostly of one ilk,
The desire to be free of debt
And ditch the cotton for silk.

To go and buy with good hard cash
Hey!....nothing wrong with corned beef hash.

To live and learn is all that's needed
There's good advise and if it's heeded
Can steer us to the journeys' end
If this was an email I'd now click 'send'

Here's one I penned when in school ( the old days):

A man fell down a sewer
And down that sewer he died.
The coroner gave his verdict ....
He pronounced it "sewer-cide"

What has it come to, when will it end
Life in an IVA, no money to spend
Cooker is breaking, the dog needs the vet
He is our baby, not only a pet

Life will get better, I am sure it will
If only I could find the money for this last bill,
Pay day comes around, never quick enough
I need food, clothes and lots of other stuff.

The children are good, they never complain
Except to say Mum... not beans AGAIN!
Christmas is coming, nothing in the pot.
Will buy a few bits and bobs that wont cost a lot

I dream of the time this is all in the past,
We'll smile and say it wasn't a blast
We got through it and paid as much as we could
Then onto the web a holiday to book.

Just wrote this in about 10 minutes, I used to love writing rhymes when I was younger, my sister always got me to write a nice sloppy one for her bf birthday cards etc [:D]

You get some good ones on gravestones ... some funny:

Here he lies
The silly old Duffer
Didn't look
Got hit by a chuffer

Some sad; on a child's grave:

If I was so soon to be done for
What on earth was I begun for.

And the soppy Valentines ones:

Roses are Red
Violets are Blue
Some verses rhyme
But this one doesn't

Maybe not a poem but when heard this as a child I didn't get it , years later i laughed for hours.

Hickory Dickory Dock
3 Mice ran up the clock
The clock struck 1
and the other 2 got away with minor injuries

I think Andy's and Herbekj's are more anti poems [:D]
