Well after the best part of a year slogging away doing surveys for Valued Opinions I have finally made enough to treat myself to a Kindle Paperwhite!

Now any vouchers I earn will be used to buy myself ebooks. It'll hlp pass the 12 hour shifts at work lol.

Luke... well done :-) Keep an eye on the Amazon Kindle store ---- I get most of my books free -- especially indy authors. They often let a book go for free for the first day of release.

I use my vouchers from various survey sites to give out as Christmas gifts - saves me a small fortune and all it costs me is time.

I'm afraid I like physical books which I get from the library - do not fancy an e reader at all.

An excellent idea Foggy, read any good free books you care to recommend?

lesley; it helps having nothing to do at work so I can devote the time to them, I never do them at home lol.

Niobe I love a good physical book too but is coming down to needing the space lol. Plus I can;t get to the library very often adn this way I can borrow e-books online from the library anytime.

Well done Luke! I love my Kindle, I can't imagine having physical books at all now. Unfortunately none of the authors I like seem to be free!

What annoys me as well is that e-books are pretty much the same price if not more than an actual book!

They are idiots if they sold a bestseller at a third of the price they would sell more than at full price and make more money. All it needs though is one publisher to be brave and do it and the rest wll have to follow suit.

It's like the internet prior to freeserve when you had to pay for the call and a monthly fee!

It's actually not their fault - ebooks are subject to 20% VAT while paper books aren't.

They don't stay free for long, Luke. I grab them and see -- if they don't engage me after the first chapter I ditch it. Depends what sort of thing you are into -- I liked the Aegus of The Gods Trilogy and Steve Robinson is doing a good series of genealogy / crime books (on his third at the moment).

Bernard Knight has 13 "Crowner" books -- kind of Cadfeal thing about a medieval coroner and his cases from Exeter. If Cadfeal is your thing I did download loads of those books free last year, they might be still around.

Ooooh Foggy I love Cadfael!!

Yeah a book has to grab you otherwise I ditch 'em too. Started writing one myself to self publish based on my experiences in Security but kind of got writers block as not sure if it is funny or just funny to me lol.

The taxman again Skippy, they take all our money then waste it!

Typical taxman!

I loved the Hunger Games trilogy and I've read all the True Blood books - might be a bit girly for you though!

My missus says I am the most gay straight bloke she knows haha [:D]

I got her True Blood Season One on DVD and loved it. Hunger Games I am not so sure on.

Funny, I say that about hubby as well!

I've got season 1 on DVD but haven't got around to watching it yet. The books are brilliant though. I didn't expect to enjoy the Hunger Games but I couldn't put them down - I read them in a few days when I was off sick last month.

Thankfully my library is a couple of miles away so easy to get to.

Can't remember the last time I bought or watched a DVD.

I must admit True Blood is awesome, its just a case of getting the other 4 series or so lol.

I will give the Hunger Games a go.
