Spent two of my lunch hours this week at the CAB and the County Court trying to find out about divorce costs, etc.
I can't believe it's £340 just to get divorced! It all seems really weird that I'm getting the wheels in motion - but I need to do it and I want to do it.
I'm a bit surprised there is no support for people in IVAs. You give all your spare cash to your creditors - but where are you supposed to find the £300, or half of it? It's going to take probably 5-6 months to save up for the fee.
Why, oh why did I get married in the first place?? [:p]

Hi Cr15py, Is you ex aware of your situation? Can you pay in installments at all.

Hi Cr15py,
I would contact your I.P as they may be able to consider giving you a payment break for a month or two so you can fund your divorce. You could always make these payments up at the end of your IVA.

The following web site might be useful - not that I am an expert at all!
http://www.divorce-online.co.uk/?gclid= ... lAodggl4Yg
I just googled "Cheap Divorces" so there may be others to compare!

Thanks guys. To answer your questions:
1) No, the ex is not aware of my IVA - and that's the way I want it to stay! She is a bit of a gossiper!!
2) I looked at cheap divorces, but the way I saw them was that they charged you £60 for the priviledge of filling in the paperwork, but you still have to pay the court fees (£300 to lodge petition, £40 for decree absolute)
I have an leaflet from the CAB for a free half-hour at a solicitors - I might take advantage of that to gather further info!

When I did it crispy the forms told you what to say and ther was no other charge. times change. Also you had to have been separated for at least three years to do it that way, no property and agree on childrens custody. So it had to be very straightforward.
