Halifax ends £100 switching offer
The Halifax is closing its £100 offer to people who switch to one of its current accounts earlier than planned.
The deal - for people able to deposit at least £1,000 a month - opened on 5 February 2007 and was due to end on 23 March 2007.
The offer, which was aimed at customers of rival banks, will now close at midnight on 16 March instead.
The Halifax, part of the HBOS banking group, said the current deal had been a "huge success".
But a spokesman refused to reveal how many people had taken advantage of the offer.
The deal was launched to lure customers away from rival banks, so long as they signed up for one of three current accounts run by the bank - its High Interest account, the Ultimate Reward account or its Moneyback account.
Michelle Slade of the financial information service Moneyfacts said she was not surprised the £100 offer had been popular.
"This was linked to the launch of another 6% current account offer on balances of £2,500 - which was the market leader at the time," she said.
It has been estimated that only about 600,000 people switch their bank accounts every year - far fewer than do the same with their utility or telephone companies.
