Just read that a branch of HSBC in a well heeled area of Dorset is only allowing cash withdrawal free for clients with certain criteria these being apparently clients with either £50k on deposit or a mortgage of £200k or salary of circa £75k p.a. Those who don`t fit the criteria will have to pay the sum of £19.50 per month for this privilege, am I reading this right? Talk about cherry picking! -Tony

I remember reading Animal Farm by George Orwell when I was at school - "all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others." Sadly the gap between rich and poor is growing bigger by the day. I would like to see ALL HSBC customers, whether they bank with this branch or not, change to another bank,

Onwards and upwards!!!

Can a single bank do this does it not have to be company policy. f so then people will start hiding their money under the bed again.

Hi
I think that this is the way its going to go.
Free banking will slowly be available to the wealthy only and the average Jo Public will have a fee based account that has lots of "frills" used to justify it that add up to nothing.

Just a note to say I had a letter from HSBC today freezing all my accounts as I am proposing an IVA.

Good job I've switched to Nationwide and will never use them for anything again in the future then!

Yes I wouldn't recommend that anybody whom is going into an IVA open a HSBC account as they have a history of closing these once they find out about the IVA despite the fact they are not one of the person's creditors.

My friend had a loan with HSBC (among other debts) but lost her job last year. She went to them to ask if she could make reduced payments until she found another job, but they said no, all they could do was offer her a consolidation loan over a longer period! To me that is irresponsible lending, and they have ended up with nothing now as she is also bankrupt.

I remember a couple of years back when Lloyds TSB were caught lending irresponsibly - it was publicised in the national press and TV.

In fact, one of the unfortunate borrowers was from the same town in which I live and he had popped into the local branch for a loan. He was offered a substantial loan (£5+) with payment protection insurance.....even though he was unemployed and on benefits![:u]

Banks dont care about us as such, just about numbers in a spreadsheet and how much they can make from us!

Well, no doubt we will be getting the cancellation letters from HSBC/first direct as soon as they receive my letters passing over authority of my financial affairs over to Melanie! Luckily, we parachuted to decent alternative accounts a couple of weeks ago! [:)]

So much for the world's local bank eh? [;)]
