My flatmate has an IVA. We are now looking for a new flat to move into and letting agents require a credit check. She is experiencing the problem that the reference comes back that she is Bankrupt. She however is not Bankrupt as she set up her IVA to prevent this. She has been paying off her IVA for a few years now with no problem in making payments. How can she obtain a credit reference without it stating that she is Bankrupt because she clearly is not??

Hi
They need to be upfront with the agency and explain the situation before the credit check is done. Some institutions class an IVA and Bankruptcy in the same light.

Why not get her to ask her IP for a reference - ie that she has maintained her payments faithfully for a long period of time and would make an ideal tenant. I would be more than happy to do this if she were a client of mine.

Hi there and welcome.
Your friend could also ask your present landlord for a reference to show that you have maintained rental payments.
