Its now just over 2 weeks since we confronted the extent of our debts and contacted Melanie. We are just getting our paperwork together and hopefully will get the IVA approved. Already we are taking positive steps to reduce our outgoings and did a boot fair last weekend to raise some cash .... we have still got a week to go til pay day though and very little money to last us. We have become friends with the Pound shop - loads of decent brand name stuff there - who's the mug paying full price for the same stuff in Sainsbury's? I visit my local co-op 2/3 times a week and buy whatever's been reduced for dinner. If there's loads available then I bung some in the freezer for another time. I'm making sure I use up leftovers too. No-one has been feeling deprived or even noticed any difference.
Good luck to everyone out there who is going through this process and keep your fingers crossed for us too!

Thanks viki ... trying to stay positive but cr*pping ourselves really. Just hope our proposal gets accepted. Finding it awful getting the paperwork together, it brings it all home. And very much missing the usual bottle of wine in the evenings!!

Thanks Andy
We cut up all our credit cards at the weekend and that felt good but also scary - no props left (they were all up to the limit anyway so who were we kidding?). My husband had also kept all those letters from Barclaycard etc offering loans - all shredded now along with 5 books of credit card cheques. Tonight the first phone calls to CC companies chasing late payments and telling them we are going through an IVA - what a relief. Last month we were rushing around withdrawing cash from one card to pay another. What idiots we were. Its strange how once you make the decision you get into a different mind set and all becomes clear.

It is the first small steps towards a bright future. You'll get there, keep positive! Its amazing how I began to realise the amount of money I wasted just through thoughtlessness. Now I think twice before spending and waste as little as possible! Good luck with the whole process! You'll do great!

Thanks all. The paperwork is ready to go and there's no looking back now. Have spent the last few months thinking oh my god, hope we don't have to do an IVA, must keep going somehow... now we're thinking oh my god hope they don't turn it down.... we should have done this years ago. Yes we are very aware of how much money we've wasted in the past ... but somehow a bottle of wine snuck in today while doing the shopping ....it's the stress.
