I'm so annoyed, i just looked on my account today and there were £38 bank charges from natwest on my account. i rang to see why and it was due to an ebay transaction of £11. i haven't made any ebay transactions in a long time so i checked and this was an unauthorised transaction which by the looks of it someone has hacked my ebay account.
i asked the bank if i could have the charges refunded as this is obviously fraud and was told no because its not the banks fault.
surely natwest should protect me against fraud. that means someone could come along and do what they want with my account and natwest will charge me for it.
i'm shocked they won't help. to top it off there charges have now put in an unauthorised overdraft which they'll no doubt charge me another £38 for. as they've done that before.
i really can't afford to lose £38 on charges i'm struggling enough as it is.
they've told me to contact ebay, but if anyones ever done this you'll know what its like. you only ever get automated reponses which don't even answer what you've asked.
i just feel like crying. i've had enough.

Oh Connie what an awful thing to have happened. I use ebay and will be keeping an eye on this.
Write a letter to the bank as if you can prove its fraud they should be taking a more compassionate view! Take it to the FSO if need be....although a stern letter to the bank may be enough.

Connie, that's awful. I was given a special number from ebay 020 8080 2105, not sure whether everyone has that number but you could try it and see whether you get through quicker, although it's probably really expensive. They need to sort this out. If you email them they usually do get back quite quickly. Hope you have luck with this, X

i've had hackers before but last time they tried to buy about £5,000 worth of computers. good job i never have any money and probably never had that in my account ever, lol. otherwise they'd probabaly have got away with it.
because of this i'm usually extra careful. don't know how its happened. so annoying that the bank won't help though. i've had my credit card (when i had one) stolen before and they give me back the money and charges no problem.
i hate natwest there so rubbish. all there bothered about is charging you stupid amounts for nothing.

Connie, have you tried speaking to a manager at Natwest or going into your actual branch. I personally rate Natwest and have never had a problem and got my charges back so keep trying!!!

i just rang them, he said that whilst he'd love to refund my charges its not there problem as they were just trying to process a transaction. but i still think thats unfair seen as i didn't authorsie that transaction.
do you think i'd be better off going into the branch then. i've already typed a complaint letter just incase

Viki, that ebay number is only for 'invited members'. I am one of them and had to phone them the other day. It does tell you that on the automted message at the beginning of the call. They probably wouldn't deal with you if you're not one of the chosen few.
I thought banks were supposed to refund money if it was fraudulently taken, or is that just with credit cards?

Hi Connie,
i can really understand how upset you are, as the others have said go and talk to the branch, simialr thing happened to my son not long ago and for months he was being charged for being forced overdrawn, We ended up at the brance and we just stood our ground and would not go into a private room, we made sure every one could hear how unreasonable the bank had been, worked in the end. they wanted to shut us up. so he got all his charges back along with the fraudulent amount.

i've emailed ebay not sure what reponse i'll get usually its just automated.
i'll go into the bank as well and see if i can speak to someone face to face instead.
i know credit cards usually refund money and charges and i thought banks were the same. obviously not natwest.

thanks janot. its just so frustrating. especially when they put you overdrawn with charges then charge you for being overdrawn. you end up in a vicious circle. its not fair. its all a con to get more charges out of you.
