have just been browsing through some old posts and have come across one about school meals.I dont have an allowance for school meals in mine, I have one child at high school and 2 at primary. I obviously make do as i didnt know i could claim for this. Does anyone know if at my review, not for another 11 months though, would i be able to get this included?

The CCCS will allow a maximum £35 per month for meals at work and £12 per month for school dinners - but at the end of the day you should be allowed to claim for what you actually spend. Speak to your IP to see if the inclusion of the expenditure is likely to affect your ability to make your ongoing payments.

Our son has an allowance for his school dinners, even though he takes a packed lunch, our Ip thought it unfair to treat him differently just coz he is too fussy to eat school meals!!

Our school has announced today that sons school dinners are going up AGAIN in September. We too have an allowance for school meals and even though they are going up a least I won't have to draw of a credit card to pay for them!

I think the allowances are totally out of touch. Kids brought a letter home the other day, school dinners are going up 50p from next term, that'll be £8.50 per week per child. That would be, taking into account that the school year last approx 26 week, an average of £17 per month for one child, not £12!! My eldest is starting the comprehensive so will be coming home and youngest is starting juniors so will be allowed to take a packed lunch so thankfully the rise will not effect me but I reckon there will be a lot of parents in IVA's who will struggle to pay for their kids dinners, if they aren't already unless they have realistic ip's!
