I just got paid today and me and the wife decided to go food shopping.
Im in an IVA and we are mainly buying Tesco's own makes and the Buy 1 get 1 Free sort of thing.
The thing that Totally Freaked me out was the Person in Front of us had 2 loads of Trolleys Full to the Brim with Shopping and GUESS WHAT!!!
It was all paid for on Credit Card and the thing about this story is that Last Sunday I went to Tesco's as it is only down the road to where i live and bought the Sunday Papers and the same couple bought a load of shopping on the Credit Card Also.

I felt so Glad as i used my Visa Electron Debit Card to Pay for Ours and Know Exactly where i am.

I reckon we could be seeing them on here soon Andrew!

It's a great feeling to pay either by debit card or cash. No nasty bills to come through the door and bite you on the bum!

I think I posted this before but a few weeks back the couple in front of me at the cash machine were arguing over what credit card still had money left on it to use for groceries......that was so us a few months back.

I get cash out rather than use electron coz it feels more like my money I am spending.

That was when i finally admitted we needed help, second time I had to pay for our food on the credit card!!!!!! And I remember how depressed I was and felt sick admitting we where in trouble...... but now, what joy!!! Shopping each week is a challenge, see how low we can get our shopping to last the week, and to be honest, things may be tesco's own, but nobody is going hungry!!!

Can I just say that there are some people who actually pay their credit cards in full each month. My uncle collects his points on either his Sainsburys or Marks and Spencer credit card and clears the balance each month. Sadly I haven't inherited his discipline!

I don't think this couple will pay there credit cards in full each month,
They looked like they didn't have 2 ha'pennys to rub together and the husbands out of work on the rock n roll(dole) as i always seem to bump into him Outside the Post Office claiming his Dole Money.
He has been doing this i think for at least 8 months and they live on a Council Estate that is well Rough.

scary isn't it.. I always watch now to see how people pay for there shopping and half the time if a big shop its on the plastic!! so don't want to go back there..

Does anyone think the shops are busier??
A few weeks ago I was in Asda and it was like Christmas.....queues everywhere.....massive amounts in trolleys.....stock running low
I mentioned to the cashier and she said it had been like that for weeks. Maybe people are trying to comfort eat their way through the credit crunch OR they are thinking that if they are going bust they may aswell use what credit they have left before they do!
Whatever the reason, it's scary to think we were like that once and it's only going to get worse for a lot of those people who are using credit now......[:(]

Our Asda always seems to be busy, doesn't matter what time of day we go.

I've got my list on which the prices have already been worked out (thank you Asda.com!) so I know it won't come to anymore than that. In the school holidays it shocks me to see all the junk food piled into the trolleys for the kids. No wonder they're all fat!

I used to be one just throwing stuff in the trolley because it was either new, or it looked nice. Not any more.

They could have been using their Tesco VISA to get extra points...I also know of people who get everything on the credit card and repay in full when the bill comes.

One of my work colleagues has an Asda credit card which he uses purely to get petrol from Asda as you get an extra 2p (I think) off per litre, and they are already the cheapest petrol round here.

He pays it off every month.

That was my wake up call when I had to buy groceries on credit card and hoping that the card I gave would be accepted. I work with young offenders and the work I sometimes do with them is around life skills and I spend sometime on budgeting and debt and looking realistically about what things cost and how much it costs you to use credit. I just wish I had had some advice then I wouldn't be in the mess I am in now.

Well off to Tesco to see how far £100 will go this month.

that was me a few months ago - working out which card to us that wasnt maxed out! now i just dont know how i lived like that but as silly as it seems because i was in so much debt i thought well another 100 pounds or so would not hurt and so it went on! i have been so stupid and buried my head for so long!

what a relief now to pay for everything in cash or on my debit card!

never want to go back to that again!

Barb, everytime I had a loan to pay off a card, I'd say 'emergency use only' for the card. Then I'd see something I liked and would buy one or two things, then I'd put a limit on how much I would use on it. It never worked because before I knew it, it was maxed out again and I'd be dreading the post.

So glad I don't have that anymore. Ok, I can't go out spending, but I'm glad. Me and OH have said that in the past, we have gone out for something, and returned with other stuff as well.

Now, we go out when we need to, and know there is no point in looking for anything because we can't afford it!
