I have just received an e-bulletin from R3, which you may find interesting.

"Misuse of Insolvency Service Register of IVA details for marketing purposes

A number of members have reported that clients of theirs have been contacted by businesses that have taken information from the register and used that to approach debtors to advertise their services. In some cases this has also involved calls on debtors to cease making payments under approved IVAs.

Members who have examples of such behaviours are invited to send details to Graham Rumney, COO at R3. We understand that the Insolvency Service and the OFT are also interested in establishing how widespread this practice is. If debtors wish to complain then they should be directed towards the Office of the Information Commissioner, see http://www.ico.gov.uk/complaints/data_protection.aspx "

At the risk of being silly, what is a 'sticky' ?

It's a post that "sticks" at the top of the list, basically because it could have a wide interest or conveys information that could be useful.

Actually can I suggest that anyone who does get one of these letters, wherever they may be from, who considers it invasion of privacy , files a note at the information commissioners office, otherwise the DTI won't be able to tell how widespread this is.

We have two so we can have a whinge and a moan twice. I am guessing jd but I think it is , put as a sticky meaning it can be viewed easily or as a common topic. Dont laugh if I am completely wrong, I am just guessing, I am really stupid when it comes to computers.

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the explanation re - sticky.. what a good idea by the way.

I am certainly going to recommend people make the complaint. I am glad that the R3 are actually making some noises abiut this. I have been talking with TS but its difficult to get anyone interested.
Hi ang - i think that you are anything but stupid. I had no idea and yet the answer is so simple so if anyone is the butt of laughter its me ---again ![:D]
