Hi Guys, I am just writing to tell you all how proud of myself I am. I had to call my bank this evening, and whilst I was on the phone, the man I was speaking to said that it had flagged up on my account that I was eligible for a loan up to £9K, and then proceeded to tell him how this would be cheaper than my credit cards I have with them. Politely, I thanked him for his time, and said that I wouldn't be taking out any more loans and asked him to flag my account to this affect. He finished the call with 'please give it some thought and give us a call if you need one'. I hadn't the heart (or guts) to tell him that it wouldn't be long before they would be informed of my IVA. I will leave that to the professionals (I hear you all shout COWARD!) I am not proud of my situation, but for ten minutes, I managed to crack a long awaited smile. Kazzy x

Brilliant Kazzy, must have felt good. I think what turned me around, and made me seek help, is the local TSB branch manager phoning me offering me a loan of £25,000 to clear the £14,000 balance off my TSB credit card and give me some cash for "whatever I wanted it for".
I already had a £25,000 loan with them too! On telling him this, he said I could qualify for another!.....But the special interest rate finished whilst he was on holiday, so I had to grab the offer there and then! He called me back twice more about it until I told him I couldn't afford it!
I don't blame my creditors, I lent the money, but they make it sound SOOOOOOOO good!
Good luck Kazzy. Viki X

Good for you Kazzy ... isn't it a good feeling when you are able to take control of your situation [:)]

Hi Ladies, yes it does feel good, although I am long way to being out of the woods yet, but you have to start somewhere. Pre-my IVA proceedings, it would have sounded all too tempting but it is frightening to think I could add another £9K to my already huge mountain of debt. Kazzy x

I used to work for a bank and these offers are usually subject to to credit scoring. So while it appears that they would happily increase your borrowing as a "loyal customer" they often just have this on there marketing or potential lead list for which advisors would get credit for offering. I know that a lot of lending is irresponsible but certainly in recent years this has definately tightened with a lot of the high street banks.
Feels good though doesn't it, the thought of not living on credit and becoming a minority[:)]

I am rather displeased with the "Cash Loan" company who never bothered contacting me before I started my IVA but have since sent me repeated letters inviting me to apply for a loan of up to £800 at an APR of 182%.
Thank you but WHY are you contacting me now?
And do you not bother to check the register to see if I am BR or in an IVA? As a professional company you must be aware that no credit is allowed in an IVA and anyone who takes it whilst in an IVA is likely to be in default and by accepting is likely to fail their IVA?
So thanks for your offer - but no thanks.

182%!!!![:0] Crikey Optimist. I bet if you took them up on their offer, it wouldn't be approved anyway. What a waste of time and money! Viki X

To be honest viki I dont know - and to their credit the company prints their APR - and repayment schedule - in BIG letters.
But - yes - they are most certainly wasting their time and money on me!!! I will NOT be applying!!! But I have kept their letters as souvenirs!!

I had defaulted on my Halifax credit card, sent them a letter that I printed off this site saying that I could no longer pay, sent it recorded.....the day after they received it(I checked on royal mail web site) they called me to offer me a mortgage!!!!! I suppose it's a different department but....really.... Viki X

The one thing an IVA definitely gives you is the time to think and reflect at leisure. Every time I receive a letter from the Cash Loan - or similar companies - it just makes me realise yet again what an idiot I was to leave things so long before I realised and accepted that things could not go on.
It has been said a million times before but - for any new readers - do something about your debts NOW!!! The longer you leave it - the worse things will get.
As someone in Year 2 of my IVA I am deeply and depressingly aware that I have a million miles to go!! If only we could turn back the clock!!!
