Hi Everyone,
Just a quick puzzler for you.
My partners sister died suddenly last week aged 39 leaving 2 kids without parents.
Obviously my partner has stepped in & is trying to sort things out for the kids so obviously being self employed she will not be bringing home wages for a few weeks.
Also the funeral etc has been organised (NO FUNERAL OR INSURANCE POLICIES WHATSOEVER WERE DONE)& the cost etc etc have been left with us to sort out.Fuel & living costs are going to cost us & wake etc needs to be paid for.Obviously we dont have this sort of money to be paying funeral costs etc.ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY RECEIVED

What a truely dreadful awful thing to happen to you, your sister and especially the children, im so so sorry for you all, you may be entitled to help with funeral costs from the department of work and pensions give them a call, they do have a funeral fund, also the children may be entitled to some benefits whilst their future is being decided,

all the best and give those children a big hug, they will need it.

We have contacted the above but the only way we can get help is if we ourselves are on benefits,& we both work full time so we are expected to find the costs.

I can't give you any advice, but I just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear your news Kieser.

Am I right in thinking you're in an IVA? If so, speak to your IP regarding a possible payment reduction or break - you don't need the added worry at a time like this x

Yes we are in an IVA.
I think i will have to bite the bullet & phone them but they have never helped us in anyway shape or form before but its worth a try.
They are a well known company that have been mentioned regulary before on here.

Do you have any children of your own, if so are in receipt of working tax credit or child tax credit they are also qualifing benefits for the funeral fund, is your partner they only close relative, because any close relative in receipt of benefits can apply for this as their next of kin.

I am so sorry to read of your news and my prayers are for you, your partner and of course the children.

Practically, I cannot advise you on any benefits you may or may not be able to claim as it is not my field but it certainly won't hurt to ask.

As for your IVA, well my gut instinct is to say that sometimes there are more important things and your priorities should lie elsewhere. I would certainly suggest that this qualifies as one of those times.

I can only therefore encourage you to make the call to your provider and put it to them. They should, in this case, be happy to assist you. If not, then you may have to contact your IP directly.

I am really very sorry to hear of your news, what a terrible situation for you and the sisters children.

All I can think of is claiming the monsy in lieu of her estate, if she left nothing then surely DWP may help. There is also Social Services, (not too keen on these myself) but they may be able to offer where to go for help. There is also many churches, happy to help out with such a sudden and dreadful event.

As was said above, some things in life are more important than money.

I lost a brother in 2006. He was 59. The Funeral Director advised his wife that there is a special grant (£2000 I believe) for those who die before retirement.
