I am currently 3 years into my IVA and have never missed a payment.
My rent is quite cheap at 550 a month for a house which I pay half of but my other half is soon to move up country with work for a while and will not be able to pay the other half of the rent. I really want to take on the other half and pay the full 550 myslef so that I don't have to get a lodger. Do you think the IVA people will let me do that? And what proof will I need to send them, a letter from the land lord?
I'm hoping they will as I think 550 is still quite good for rent outgoings, I'm sure some people pay more than that on a IVA.
I'm going to write and ask them but wanted your thoughts as well as couldn't sleep last night thinking they might not accept it.

I would suggest having a word with your IP and explaining the full situation. With rent as cheap as that it would be far easier for you to pay it than have to relocate as this would end up costing far more.
They may be able to vary your IVA, allowing you to pay less for a while, while your O/H is working away then tagging it on to the end of your IVA.

Hi there,
I know our situation is slighly different as our rent increased due to a forces move. Our rent increased by £155pm. This was back in January, after informing our IP he has FINALLY organised a variation meeting, which is costing us £585, to be held on 23th June, but if accepted it will mean an extra 12 months payments.

Oh god I don't want to have to pay anymore payments. It feels like I've paid out thousands already and I've still got ages to go.

I know what you mean. We are only just coming up to our first year (august) and now to think we will just be starting again at the 5 year point is a sooooo deflating BUT upward and onward [;)]
But, like I said our circumstances are different. I think your IP can reduce your payment by up to 15% without calling for a variation meeting, so look into this to see if that could be done and to see if it would solve your problem [:)]

Why thank you very much
19 months to go and counting.
You have to do everything in writting with my IVA company so it takes ages to get any decisions made and a lot of the times they don't even reply.

Its not B&E is it? [:D] That's who we are with and I cant believe its taken them 5 months to write to the creditors and we had to keep chasing them to get it done by then. They need to visit the pet shop to buy more mice for their wheels I think hee hee[;)]

haha, No Debt Free Direct. They were good at getting me set up so I don't want to put them down but their after care is a bit rubbish.

So 3 1/2 years down, must be great to think it will all be over soon though [^]
How has it been? The last 9 months have been ok for us, as with everyone a major lifestyle change, but we are still here all happy. Still feels like a big black tunnel sometimes though, just have to buy more batteries for our torch hee hee.

It's been ok to be honest, I mustn't complain. Money is still tight every month but if I stick to my budget it works out ok. When I get fed up about it I just remember what it was like before the IVA, bad times.

Clearly the loss of £275 per month is bound to have some effect on your IVA payments. Is your partner not able to contribute anything to the rent and if he is being relocated with his job cannot his employer help out with this?
