I'm after a little advice.

I took out an IVA just under a year ago. Since then I have had a child, moved house further away from work and now have other bills to pay. I dont qualify for any help in the terms of benefits, except working tax credit and child benefit. My partner is unemployed and doesnt recieve any benefits as I am earning. Is there anything I can do with my IVA as I'm struggling to to afford the repayments as my life has chaged so much in the last year?

Thank you

Hey Chris, welcome to the forum. Have you approached your IP as they may be able to reduce your payments without a need for a creditors meeting, an expert will be along shortly to advise you. Viki X

Viki gives good advice in her post - seek the advice of your IP as soon as you can to discuss possibilities and whether your payments could be reduced. Is there any reason why your partner could not get a job - even if it were part-time or poorly paid?

Hi Chris

Could your partner not claim jobseekers allowance? I know when my hubby lost his job a few years ago he had to claim that between jobs, it's not much but it's better than nothing, also you could probably get discount off your council tax, because only one of you working.

Hope things improve for you soon

Hi Chris

The whole point about an IVA is that we don't have crystal balls to tell us what is going to happen in the future ... although there is some element of being in an IVA can affect and influence the life decisions we have to make.

Talk to your IP and see what they say ... and stay in touch with the Forum to let us know how you get on because you have lots of 'friends' here.
