Just scanning the internet for another forum member and I stumbled on this, just thought it might be of help to some here and some yet to come....
MIND
Our research shows that debt is not just a financial problem but can have serious impact on a persons mental health in terms of anxiety and stress, depression, self harm and suicidal thoughts as well as adding to wider social exclusion.
This years MIND week campaign will highlight the need for better support and services by financial service companies, banks and local authority collection departments for people with mental health problems and debt difficulties. (from MIND homepage.
www.mind.org.uk/mindweek 10th 17th May 2008).
Read the report. In the red. Debt and Mental health. (
www.mind.org.uk/mindweek/report.htm.)
See you all next week
Love

Quite right. I wonder just how many people have been pushed over the edge whilst struggling with debt by the aggressive, bullying calls from creditors? A lot don't realise there is help out there and forums like this on the internet.

that is so sad that people get so desperate!
i can understand it though! i was so stressed and frightened, when i finally realised we were drowning in debt!
this forum is such an absolute saviour!
i thought we must be the only people who were in so much mess, did not want to ask for help as i felt so ashamed, but this forum somehow makes you realise you are not alone and can ask for help without being judged!
its just so sad that some people probably never find this site!
so glad i came across it as i just dare not think where we would be now!

Barb, I completely agree with you. I had not even heard of an IVA or a debt management plan before I came across this site, I thought my problems would last forever. Not only did I find a route to take, I met all you lovely forum members and the support is quite overwhelming sometimes. All the effort that everyone makes to help people on here......it's amazing. Hi guys
I knew this special needs school teacher, it was quite a few years ago now, I hadnt experienced debt then. She took her own life becasuse she was in debt. She was fantastic with the kids and the two of us just seemed to get on when my son first went to the school.
Anyhow, I was kind of cross with her at the time why didnt she say anything? Why do this to her family? I just didnt understand. When my own debt crisis hit home I can so understand, its such a horrible place to be. I think about her a lot and I can quite easily cry when I think of her in her last desperate moments, what she must have suffered to get to that point, so alone. And so pointless....
If we can help anyone out there, we just have to. Sod what other people think, debt doesnt have to be the end.

ah lily
what a sad tragic story, i can only imagine how desperate and low she must have felt!
i think because most people on here have experienced, how desperate and frightened we were when we first faced up to our problems that when people first start to post it almost takes you back to your situation and how you felt and you just want to take all their fear away!
like you say if we can help in any way, to stop people getting so low and let them know they are not alone and things can be sorted, then i feel posting is just so worthwhile!

Lily, That's awful, that poor woman. I would love to help people who feel that there is no solution to their debt problem. I try to offer support on here but when the restaurant sells I hope to try and gain employment in this field. I have offered my time in the CAB as an advisor, hopefully they will have a place for me, I have to start somewhere. Too many people are in such a dark place and think that they have no where to turn, it really is upsetting. Viki X

I too feel this way Viki. I would love to do this kind of work too. I dont want to go back to my old job, not yet anyway. I dont know where to start either. I looked into the posibility of counselling courses at my local college but I was away for the weekend when it started. Maybe this year, eh?
Sometimes these bad things happen for a reason, when one door closes, another opens and all that. I guess its just knowing which one to knock.
Barb, I was told at the time and it was a long time ago now, it was 2K she owed but that is only grape vine stuff. This woman did tremendous things in her life, she was fantastic with special kids. What is she remembered for? Debt/suicide, the world, that school and her poor family were robbed.

Lily, I think you'd be an amazing counsellor. Your posts are very inspirational, you've helped me a lot over the past three months.....if I haven't said it before....thank you for that.[:D]
I looked into it too, but only glanced on the web. I might have another look. [:)]
